The Trident has some unique uses, but also carries with it some restrictions.

Can you sell the Trident of Dark Tides in Sea of Thieves?

To put it simply: no, you cannot sell the Trident of Dark Tides to any vendor, for either gold or reputation in Sea of Thieves.

The confusion is understandable, since even other found weapons like the Ashen Winds Skull can usually be traded in for a decent chunk of change and/or social credit. However, the Trident of Dark Tides just doesn’t allow for that.

Where to find the Trident of Dark Tides in Sea of Thieves

The Trident of Dark Tides cannot be bought, and it also can’t be stored or picked up from a weapon locker. This unique weapon can only be picked up as loot.

There’s no single location where you pick up the Trident of Dark Tides. Instead, you have a chance of one showing up in any of the following locations:

  • Found anywhere in the environment during a Tall Tale.
  • Found in a shipwreck.
  • Found in a floating Barrel of Plenty.
  • Found in the Vault during a Skeleton Fort event.
  • Washed ashore on an island.
  • Dropped by a defeated Siren Leader.
  • Dropped by a variety of defeated sea-dwelling enemies and hostile creatures.

Note that none of these are guaranteed spawns for the Trident of Dark Seas — and indeed, it can take some searching before you turn one up.

How to use the Trident of Dark Tides in Sea of Thieves

The Trident of Dark Tides is a unique weapon that shoots a blast of explosive bubbles to damage and knock back enemies.

It is a limited-use weapon: each Trident can charge its special power 30 times before it breaks.

More powerful uses of the weapon require more charges: you’ll only get 30 uses out of it if you always use it at the lowest power (small fast projectile, minimum damage). Mid-tier power (medium speed, size, and damage) gives you 20 uses per Trident, while using it on the highest power (large slow projectile, maximum damage) will cause it to break after only ten uses. You can, of course, mix and match these approaches.

The power of each blast is determined by how many times the player chooses to charge it before discharging at an enemy.

To keep track of your remaining charges, pay attention to the shade of the crystals on the Trident’s tip. They start out a vivid blue, but become more muted and grey as the weapon decays.

The Trident is a heavy weapon, which means that you can’t equip anything else while actively using it. You also can’t sprint while holding it, presumably again due to its bulkiness.
