Cloth is a very versatile material in Rust. Its most notable use is in clothing — no small matter in a game that infamously begins with your character buck naked in the wilderness. But it also has a number of other very important uses.
Where to get cloth in Rust
There are two main sources of cloth in Rust: animals and hemp fibres.
Killing and butchering any animal in Rust — including the more unlikely-sounding ones, like chickens and mutated creatures — has a chance of including some cloth pieces as part of the drop.
Meanwhile, hemp plants can be found growing naturally and harvested for their fibres. A typical hemp fibre yield will include around ten pieces of cloth and a hemp seed. They seemingly can crop up anywhere, but seem most common in forest and desert biomes.
How to farm cloth in Rust
Currently, it’s not possible for you to tame animals in Rust without using mods. Therefore if you want to farm cloth resources, you need to grow hemp.
You can plant the hemp seeds you get from harvesting to grow more hemp plants. You can also take cuttings from plants you grew in this way (by selecting ‘Use’ on them) to clone the plant. This allows you to quickly increase the number of hemp plants in your farm.
