Battlefield fans rejoice – there’s not much longer to wait before Battlefield 6 hits the shelves.
After various Battlefield 6 leaks and rumours, EA is poised to release more information about Dice’s latest instalment in the Battlefield franchise. As it stands, details are a little thin on the ground regarding what we can expect to see in Battlefield 6 or when it’s likely to be set.

Battlefield 6 E3 reveal
EA announced that we’ll be getting our first look at the Battlefield 6 trailer in June during E3 following a bunch of leaks, with more information coming during EA Play in July.
At present, EA hasn’t revealed the game’s true title, so we’ll be running with Battlefield 6 until that changes.
Battlefield 6 release date
During EA’s earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that plans are still on track for Battlefield 6 to release Holiday 2021, meaning sometime around November or December. While Wilson emphasised that Battlefield 6 will “take full advantage of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware” it will still be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, so don’t fret if you haven’t managed to snag a next-gen console yet.
There’s also speculation that it’ll be coming to Game Pass on Day One, but no details have been confirmed yet. We assume that Battlefield 6 will come with pre-order editions and bonuses but there are no details available just yet, so watch this space.
Battlefield 6 Battle Pass
EA recently filed a patent for a new type of Battle Pass, where you’ll be able to decide which rewards you earn rather than collect predetermined rewards. “The seasonal reward system can provide users with a non-linear map that allows the users to choose how to progress through the reward map when advancing or levelling up a virtual character or user account within the video game,” is what you can expect from EA’s new Battle Pass system, though it’s unclear whether it will be available in Battlefield 6.
Season and Battle Passes are nothing new in online shooters, and this new patent would set Battlefield 6’s version ahead of the crowd, beyond even what Destiny 2 achieves by letting you choose rewards each season. The other way to think about it is sort of like your own personal skill tree outside of natural in-game progression, letting you enjoy a more personalised experience.
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale?
It’s unclear yet whether Battlefield 6 will be getting its own Battle Royale mode, like how Battlefield 5 had Firestorm. The question was asked whether there would be a free-to-play element a la Warzone with Battlefield 6, which was neither confirmed nor denied.
There are rumours, however, that Criterion is working on such a mode, so we’re hopeful more details will appear in June and July. A recent survey also revealed that a free-to-play element was likely, alongside evolving maps, a clan system and weapon blueprints.
Battlefield 6 setting, gameplay and more
The most recent leaked trailer seems to suggest that Battlefield 6 will take place during modern combat, potentially in the future. It also appears that there might be a robot dog, EDOG273, that you can upgrade and use, which I assume will be a lot of fun to play around with.
The trailer shows missiles, a minigun and guided bombs, as well as a slot that, we assume, is for defence. As I said before, the technical advancements of the new consoles mean that Battlefield 6 is going to be big with an unprecedented scale of combat, as Wilson emphasised in the earnings call.
Basically, it sounds like they’re going to take everything they’ve done right in the past and push it beyond our expectations now that next-gen consoles are available. Check back soon for more updates and rumours.
