Animal Crossing: New Horizons player turns their island into one big IKEA store

It may have been out for almost a year now, but fans can still impress when it comes to particularly creative Animal Crossing: New Horizons designs.

We’ve seen players recreate Revenge of the Sith, the entire Sinnoh map from Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, The Wizard of Oz, and even early 2000s music videos in the game. But it seems the well of inspiration never runs dry for players facing down a global pandemic and taking solace in the cozy, safe world of New Horizons.

This week, we saw a particularly inspired design by Skidmore101 on Reddit, showing off an impressive take on Swedish furniture giant IKEA via the Nintendo Switch game.

The Redditor posted their take on an IKEA store (which, by all accounts, appear to be pretty similar whether you’re in Europe, Asia, or the Americas) including a one-way map, food market, showrooms, and an area dedicated to picking up your flat-packed goods.

Was the player inspired by the fact that IKEA plans to introduce a line of gamer-specific furniture in the coming months and years? It’s hard to say, but in a world where a lot of people are still forced to stay at home as the Covid-19 pandemic continues, having this kind of retail escapism is quite comforting.

If the images inspire you to get back into the game, you can visit our sea creature prices guide, Fishing Tourney guide, and how to find every bug guide that’ll all help you get the most out of the game and set you up to embark on a creative odyssey of your own.

You can see all the images from the interesting project over on Reddit.
