GTA Online for PS3 and Xbox 360 will shut down in December

Rockstar is shutting down online services for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 16.

Along with shutting down the servers for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online in December, website stat tracking, online multiplayer, and leaderboards for the same versions of Max Payne 3 will also go offline on September 16.

Website tracking for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of LA Noire will also be taken offline on September 16.

All these changes will have no impact on access or progress in Story Mode for any of these titles on either platform.

Rockstar said it was shutting these services down in order to concentrate on updates and support for PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of  GTA Online. It will also help the studio prepare for this fall’s launches of the new expanded and enhanced versions of GTA 5 and  GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In addition, Shark Cash Cards for GTA Online will no longer be sold for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions after September 15.

Unfortunately, players will not be able to transfer last-gen progress from GTA Online over to current-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One. Rockstar said this was not possible as the feature isn’t available.

Also, virtual currency and virtual goods purchases such as Shark Cards are platform-specific and cannot be refunded or transferred.

GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th, 2013. The game was released on PS4 and Xbox One the following year in November.
