Webfishing players use in-game guitar for pop music ‘concerts’

Webfishing is one of my favorite games right now. It’s a fishing game, so you’ll do plenty of fishing — but there are many other activities for you and your friends, too. While exploring the island you can dress up cute animal characters, gamble virtual money with scratch-offs, and decorate parts of the world with chalk. It also has a guitar you can play, and since its release in October, musically talented players have been using this in-game guitar to put on virtual concerts and cover popular songs from bands like Green Day, Radiohead, and Blink-182.

The item is surprisingly sophisticated and emulates an an actual instrument. You can pluck individual strings, save presets for chords, and strum chords. I’m no musician, so I used it to play random notes in the background as my friends tried their best to focus on fishing. But some players have become so good at playing the in-game guitar that they’re performing acoustic covers of real songs in Webfishing and sharing clips online. Here is a video of a person — err, I mean dog — playing “No Surprises” by Radiohead.

This one is a rough, but charming, take on Green Day’s “American Idiot.”

This person went all out and recorded four different parts to recreate “I Miss You,” by Blink-182.

All in all, it’s cool to see people get so into using just one item in the game. The creator, Lamedeveloper, went the extra mile to make just a single item so complex. (I would have been happy to run around and make random strumming sounds!) The guitar has become so popular that one person created software that uses the MIDI audio files for the instrument in order to make it easier to replicate the sound, without the need to play it directly in the game using the somewhat clunky UI.

So, if you’re musically inclined — or just the type who likes to mess around with friends — you can check out Webfishing on Windows PC.
