Activision Blizzard has reportedly cancelled its in-development survival game, as well as waving goodbye to both president Mike Ybarra and chief design officer Allen Adham.
This comes as Microsoft – the tech giant that now owns Activision Blizzard as of the October 2023 acquisition – announced that 1,900 staff within its gaming division will be laid off. The cancellation of Blizzard’s in-development survivial game (first reported by The Verge), adds insult to injury.
Mike Ybarra has confirmed his departure on Twitter, alongside a message to the staff affected by the layoffs. He wrote: “I want to thank everyone who is impacted today for their meaningful contributions to their teams, to Blizzard, and to players’ lives. It’s an incredibly hard day and my energy and support will be focused on all those amazing individuals impacted – this is in no way a reflection on your amazing work.
