Nintendo is remastering The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD follows that of Super Mario 3D World, which Nintendo released just last week for Switch.
The Wii title was originally released in November 2011, and is the sixteenth mainline entry in The Legend of Zelda series. It takes place on the floating island of Skyloft and the land below it and made use of the Wii MotionPlus peripheral. It was made available worldwide on the Wii U eShop in September 2016.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD promises smoother and more intuitive controls, in addition to improved framerate and graphics. In this enhanced version of the game running at 60 frames per second, you can choose to play using motion control with the two Joy-Con controllers in a similar way to the original, or use new button-only controls to play the game with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, in handheld mode, or on Nintendo Switch Lite.
A set of themed Joy-Con controllers will also be released alongside the game. The right Joy-Con controller is themed after the Master Sword, while the left features the Hylian Shield motif.
The game was teased for Switch as far back as 2018 by Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma, series director for The Legend of Zelda. Then last summer, an Amazon UK listing for the game surfaced and was subsequently pulled.
Just last week, a new trademark appeared for the game alongside Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Phantom Hourglass, which hinted at the games coming to Switch. Then again, trademark renewals are nothing new, but it still gave Zelda fans hope.
It’s coming July 16.
