Welcome to December, when it’s the most wonderful time of the year: Dark enough to stay inside and watch TV for a longer evening. (I’m kidding — like, I’m not, I love TV, but I also love the holiday season!) If the start of the season is making you itch for a good animated offering and you’re done with some of the more standard seasonal fare, check out either Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld or Creature Commandos. While they are definitely not about Christmas, they are certainly about the heartwarming power of working together (more or less).

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld

Jentry Chau (Ali Wong) is just trying to get by with a regular high school life, and these goddamn supernatural powers — not to mention the literal demons that come with them — are making it difficult. Like Buffy before it, Jentry Chau will demonstrate how much life in high school can really be hell (and, hopefully, a whole lot of fun).

Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) is like any Star Wars fan: Dreaming of a life of glory as a Jedi Knight, and adventures that pull him out of the small-town life he’s always known. But Wim is also a kid in the Star Wars universe, so in his version of this — on a remote planet, post-Return of the Jedi — his life under Republic rule is interrupted when he and his friends (or more accurately: his friend and two people he’s sort of feuding with) get lost in the galaxy.

So, in lieu of Team Peacemaker or Suicide Squad, she’s left with… Rick Flag Sr.’s Creature Commandos. What could go wrong?

Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) is a maple syrup farmer who’s being driven to a life of crime thanks to bureaucratic frustrations. The crime? Something sweeter than you could’ve possibly imagined: pairing up with a Bostonian mobster and French Canadian security guard for a multi-million-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus. The best part? These six episodes are based on a true story (though, as the trailer specifies: “This is absolutely not the true story.”)
