Title is set to launch for Nintendo Switch early next year.
Game Freak has finally made that Zelda-esque Pokemon game you were all asking for.
Announced today during the Pokemon Presents livestream event for the pocket monsters’ 25 anniversary, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a new kind of entry in the series from developer Game Freak.
This is a 3D action RPG, similar in style to something like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, that sees players exploring an older version of the Sinnoh region in order to complete the first-ever Pokedex.
Things aren’t all that different from your regular Pokemon game; your character still starts the game by picking one of three starter Pokemon – Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott – from a mysterious professor who has been travelling around the world and has presumably been the Johto, Unova and Alola regions.
You’re also mostly catching critters and making them battle like the awful sadist that you are. But it’s 3D, and therefore better as a result. Oh, and you can now sneak up on Pokemon.
There’s also some chatter about the titular legendary Pokemon, Arceus, who apparently shaped everything in the world and is somehow connected to your story. Because of course.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to launch around the world for Nintendo Switch in early 2022.
