Late last year, Pokemon Go developers Niantic revealed the game would be going to a regular ‘season’ based model. After a celebratory first season, we now know the next: Season of Legends.
The details of the new Season of Legends was revealed in an official Pokemon Go blog post from Niantic – but we’ve decided to pull together everything we know about the next season on this page in a handy, easy-to-digest summary of sorts. As we get closer to and then into the season on March 1st, we’ll update this page with more information as a bit of a guide.
As an aside, we should note that again: The Pokemon Go Season of Legends starts Monday March 1st, 2021. Niantic is sticking with its initial plan that seasons will run for roughly three months – so it’ll go on until concluding early in the morning on Tuesday June 1st, 2021. There’ll be a variety of themed community days and other special events throughout the months, so the season will feel different week-to-week.
New Season of Legends Raids: Legandary Pokemon, Mega Raids, and Therian Forms
First off, Niantic confirms that the Season of Legends will feature some new Pokemon making their debut in Pokemon Go within all-new Legendary Raids and Mega Raids. For the Mega evolutions, you’ll see new and different mega-evolved Pokemon in Mega Raids, with other debuts spread out throughout the three-month duration of the season.
Over in regular raids, the Season of Legends will mark the debut of three anticipated legendary Pokemon – Therian Forme Tornadus, Therian Forme Thundurus, an Therian Forme Landorus. The base forms of these three Pokemon have already been in Pokemon Go for a while, but this is the first time the Therian forms have appeared in Pokemon Go.
New, Season of Legends focused Special Research
Naturally, a new season means a rejigging of some of the staples of Pokemon Go, and that includes the field research you’ll be able to complete and the rewards you get for them. While the season is long and will see at least three general overhauls to field research as it progresses, we do know that initially, Professor Willow will set up a special research branch that players can complete all related to the new Therian Forme versions of Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus.
Completing this new special research will allow you to get various rewards, including Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus Candy that you can then use to power up your newly-caught legendaries, assuming you’re taking part in raids. As ever, once the research starts, we’ll list the changes in our Pokemon Go Field Research list.

Egg Hatch changes for the Season of Legends
As with field research, another ever-changing element of Pokemon Go is the act of hatching Pokemon Eggs to find and breed new Pokemon. Eggs will be rejigged for the season, and possibly be changed throughout it, also. Data is thin on the ground right now, but expect the following Pokemon to appear in eggs to start with:
- Treecko (2km)
- Torchic (2km)
- Mudkip (2km)
- Budew (2km)
- Drowzee (5km)
- Azurill (5km)
- Munna (5km)
- Nincada (10km)
- Alomomola (10km)
There will surely be more to come, and as they do, we’ll keep our Pokemon Go Egg Chart up-to-date with the changes.
Wild Pokemon Spawns changing in the Season of Legends
One of the big new promises of Seasons in Pokemon Go was that the game would begin to more closely resemble the real world in how the Pokemon out in the wild change in line with how real-life wildlife shifts during the real-world seasons. As a result, the Pokemon spawns will be changing for this three-month season. Depending on where you are in the world, come March 1st you’ll see some different Pokemon out in the wild as nature warms up or cools down around you. Additionally, spawns will change somehwat based on your location – woods and grassy areas will have different spawns to the inner city, and so on.
Exclusive spawns continue to be based on your hemisphere – with the Northern and Southern hemisphere having slightly different Pokemon exclusively available as wild spawns. Again, this list won’t yet be exhaustive, but here’s what we can expect to initially see:
Northern Hemisphere Season of Legends Spawns:

Southern Hemisphere Season of Legends Spawns:

Other Season of Legends Bonuses
As well as all of the above, more themed bonuses and changes will come throughout the Season of Legends between March and June, as mentioned. Some specific bonuses have been revealed by Niantic, too: such as how players will get increased XP from five-star raids this season. In addition, free Remote Raid Passes will be available at certain times throughout the season. This is definitely a raid-focused season!
With that said, there’ll be plenty of non-raid activities. As mentioned, we’ll have the March, April, and May community days themed in line with the season of legends, a new season of the GO Battle League, and other special events.
