Ahead of the game’s release in July, Neo: The World Ends With You will be getting a demo so you can try out the anticipated follow-up to the cult DS game yourself.
Last night, the Square Enix Twitter account posted a new trailer for the game that showed off some new elements and gameplay – but there was one little morsel it seems they didn’t intend to share: the confirmation that a demo is coming to the game.
A splash screen at the end of the video in the now-deleted tweet read “Play the demo now!” Oops. Following the apparently accidental sharing of the video, the company released the final version of the trailer – which you can see below.
It confirms that a demo is coming to both Switch and PS4, and you’ll be able to download it from tomorrow:
“On June 25, you can play the free demo and start your adventure in NEO: The World Ends with You! Be ready when the full game drops on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on July 27, 2021!”
Any progress you make in the demo will transfer to the final game, which is a nice time-saving bonus. As you’d expect, then, the demo contains the first part of the game’s story and will introduce you to main character Rindo and show off the beginning area, too.
If you don’t know this series too well, The World Ends With You is a unique RPG with action-packed battles and a particularly important, game-defining soundtrack.
It was a Nintendo DS classic that was later ported to mobile platforms and Switch – and now, fourteen years on, it’s getting a full-blown sequel – which has fans very excited. An anime based on the original game is also available now, building hype for the release of the new game.
Neo: The World Ends With You will release on July 27 for PS4 and Switch, and arrives on PC ‘in the summer’.
