How to get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket

There are a number of ways to get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket — you can get one type of Mew card from the Genetic Apex expansion, and five types in December 2024’s Mythical Island expansion.

For the Genetic Apex version of Mew, you can’t simply pull the card from the expansion’s booster packs. Instead, you must complete a hidden mission called “Complete the Kanto Pokédex.” The Mythical Island versions of Mew, however, are acquired more traditionally.

Here’s how to get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and learn some tips to unlock Mew faster.

How to get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Genetic Apex expansion

To get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you’ll need to collect at least one copy of every Kanto Pokémon card, which totals to 150 unique cards.

Luckily, full art and ex cards do count towards your total card count, but promo cards unfortunately don’t. For example, if you have a Pikachu ex card, but don’t have a standard Pikachu card, it’ll count towards the 150 cards needed for Mew.

Checking your progress in Pokémon TCG Pocket can be a little difficult as you can’t sort your cards by region. If you don’t mind using external tools, then Reddit user maxwell1755 created a useful spreadsheet that allows you to keep track of what cards you own and which cards you need, including a handy “Mew Tracker” table that calculates the total number of missing cards in each pack, and also shows which pack has the highest likelihood of containing a new card.

Tips to get Mew faster in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Genetic Apex expansion

Getting a copy of all 150 Kanto Pokémon is no easy task, so let us help you with some tips, though note that these are only applicable to the Genetic Apex version of Mew:

  • Use your Wonder Picks: Owned cards are marked with a binder in the bottom left corner in Wonder Pick, so if you spot a batch of cards without the marker, there is a good chance you’ll get a new card — just make sure that the card is a Kanto Pokémon.

  • Spend Pack Points to buy specific cards: Head over to the pack selection screen and click on the pack symbol in the bottom right corner. Here, you can exchange your pack points to get those hard-to-find Pokémon when you’re extremely close to reaching the 150 Kanto Pokémon mark. However, if you already have one form of a card, there’s no need to exchange your points for the other form. For example, if you have a Gengar, you don’t need to chase the Gengar ex or Gengar Full Art.
  • Open the right pack: Each booster pack has a different set of cards inside. There may be a situation where you’re opening a Charizard pack, but the card you’re looking for is in the Mewtwo pack. It’s a little difficult to keep track of which cards are in which pack, so we can not stress this enough — use the aforementioned spreadsheet to help you narrow down which pack you should be opening.

How to get Mew in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Mythical Island expansion

The Mythical Island expansion added five new Mew cards to Pokémon TCG Pocket — one standard Mew and four Mew ex cards.

These Mews can be obtained through regular means, such as opening Mythical Island booster packs or exchanging your pack points. However, these Mew cards are extremely rare: The rarest Mew, the gold Mew ex card, has a 0.040% chance of being pulled from a pack.
