No one wants to forget that one time Activision brought comedian Jamie Kennedy to host its E3 conference.
Every year, right around E3 time, games media and YouTube channels dig into the history of E3 to remind everyone of the show’s worst, and most bizarre moments.
If you’ve been following video games as religiously as we have, you’ll no doubt be familiar with Konami’s iconic E3 2010, Mr. Caffeine (Aaron Priceman)’s Ubisoft E3 2011 conference, and, of course, Activision’s E3 2007 conference hosted by Jamie Kennedy.
The comedian appeared drunk, trying and failing to make attendees laugh at his jokes, and generally being ignorant of the games and his guests. It was a train wreck of awkward moments that you saw unfold in real time.
In the 14 years since, Kennedy never spoke publicly about this moment, until now. On his YouTube channel, Kennedy decided to watch a supercut of the E3 show and offer some insight into some of its most infamous moments.
In the 16-minute video, embedded below, Kennedy explained that he wasn’t, in fact, inebriated, he was just tired, having took the stage after two long days of filming for Activision projects. While it’s true he didn’t know much about video games, the comedian explained that he also didn’t appreciate just how big of a deal E3 is to fans.
Kennedy has a history with Activision, having worked with the publisher on many occasions, most notably creating commercials for the publisher – this is how he got the job.
The full video is worth watching, if only to learn about the events that lead to this beautiful mess. It’s also interesting to hear Kennedy’s take on watching his jokes fail to land, and the audience’s general reactions.
