Hyrule Castle Underground jail walkthrough in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Zelda sits in a jail cell in Hyrule Castle Undeground in Echoes of Wisdom

Hyrule Castle Underground is arguably the first dungeon of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Essentially the tutorial, you’ll assume control of Zelda, go through a crash course with the Tri Rod, and acquire several elementary echoes, the core mechanic of the game.

Still, getting out of jail is never easy. Our Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom walkthrough will show you how to escape the Hyrule Castle Underground jail.

Hyrule Castle Underground room #1

You’ll start Hyrule Castle Underground locked in a jail cell. Don’t even bother looking for a key.

Use your Tri Rod to learn the Table Echo on the bottom side of the room. Then fabricate two tables, one of which is stacked on the existing table on the left side of the room, to create a makeshift staircase leading to the hole in the wall. It should look like this:

In the next cell, the door is unlocked. Going right will lead you straight into two guards. (If you get caught by any guards in Hyrule Castle Underground, you’ll get taken back to the start of the room you were caught in.)

Instead, head left and exit through the door at the end of the hallway.

In the next room, you’ll need to circumvent guards who patrol in predictable routes. Start by using three tables to create a staircase leading on top of the shelves near the entrance to the room, like so:

Walk to the left of the shelves, drop off the edge, and interact with the box in the corner on the ground to learn the Wooden Box Echo.

Around the next corner, you’ll see two guards patrolling a cyclical route around a set of shelves. Push a box so it blocks the bottom passage (like the screenshot below), which will confuse one guard, then sneak past the other one via the upper passage when the coast is clear.

Around the next corner, you’ll see two guards. Once they stop talking, you can just walk right past them; they remain facing the shelves. Instead, climb up the ladder in the screenshot below, and head to the left to get the Hyrule Castle Pot Echo.

Drop off the left side of the shelves, then throw a pot into the upper-right corner (shown below) to distract and attract the guard. Move through the bottom passage when it’s safe to do so.

For the next guard (the last in this room), simply stroll through the upper passage when he’s looking at the bottom of the room.

Exit through the door on the left to start a cutscene, after which you’ll receive a blue cloak disguise, learn the spin move, and acquire a map of Hyrule.

Hyrule Castle Underground room #3

After Impa goes all Yoda-from-episode-2, it’s back to dungeoning. In this room, first, interact with the trees in the bottom-right corner to learn the Decorative Shrub Echo.

Climb the ladder show in the screenshot above to get on top of the shelves, then head left across the shelves and the tops of some shrubs. When you can’t proceed, place two decorative shrubs to bridge the gap, like the two glowing shrubs shown below:

Once you cross over, keep going left until you reach another gap — between the shelf you’re on and a set of shelves with beds on them. Use two shrubs to create a bridge, like below, then cross over and interact with one of the cots to learn the Old Cot Echo.

To exit this room, stack one wooden box on top of one shrub and then an old bed on top of the box to create Frankenstein’s Bridge:

Hyrule Castle Underground – Royal Family Shortcut

When you get outside, use your spin attack to cut the grass and reveal some rupees, then drop into the well on the left to enter the Royal Family Shortcut. The game pivots to two-dimensional side-scroller now, so just keep going left.

Use a table or old bed echo to ascend the first ledge, then drop down and interact with the giant rock to learn the Boulder Echo.

Push the boulder into the water and jump in after it. Climb onto the sole floating box, then use three wooden boxes to create a bridge leading to the other side of the lake.

On the next series of boxes, placing one boulder on a box will cause it to sink to the bottom of the water, giving you room to swim into the next room.

You’ll end up back in isometric view of a castle room. A rift will open up and start to rapidly grow, threatening to consume you. To escape it, jump into the water and swim through the end of the waterfall.

You’ll end up in part of the overworld, Suthorn Beach. And soon after that, you’ll encounter your first dungeons of the Stilled World: the Stilled Suthorn Forest and the Suthorn Ruins.
