After weeks and weeks of build up, we are now at the height of Black Friday. The zenith, the very peak of this strange and wondrous annual event, where the savings rain down from on high and the stocks are forever running low. To celebrate, we’ve put together a list of our own Top Ten Black Friday offers – a collection decided not with our calculators, but with our hearts. If the sheer number of discounts on offer feels overwhelming, this is a great place to start.
These deals are all US based. To see savings in GDP, head over to our friends at Eurogamer, who have put together a list of their own.
Okay. Drumroll please! Here they are: our (completely subjective) Top 10 best Black Friday gaming deals from the year 2020.
Razer products are well-regarded for a reason. Sleek, high performing – the only thing that might stand to put you off is the price. Luckily, they’re gone all in on Black Friday. There’s a tonne of offers worth looking at, but this $30 off Kraken headset ticks pretty much all the boxes.
Released at the tail end of last year, this retro remake for the Switch is bursting at the seams with charm – a trip down memory lane for some, a whole new adventure for others. This is a must-have for Switch owners, and with a 33% discount, it’s a no-brainer, too.
I’d like to link the Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart 8 deluxe bundle here, but sadly it’s sold out. Not surprising, given how miserly Nintendo are with their discounts. Instead we have this $10 off memory card to bulk out the console’s piddling memory. Nothing fancy, just a great deal.
Best Buy are running a number of great TV deals this year, but this 30% discounted SmartCast TV is probably the best of the bunch. A large 4K OLED TV for well under a grand is an absolute steal.
Less dramatic than the Xbox offer further down this list, this is still easily worth it for PlayStation owners. 25% off for a whole year of on-demand gaming, perks, and online multiplayer, plus all those lovely exclusives.
This deal was all over the place, but you might as well go to the source: Microsoft’s brand new wireless controller for a whole $20 off the launch price. If you’re in the market for a new controller, you can’t do much better than this.
I told you this was a subjective list, didn’t I? Horizon Zero Dawn might be four years old now, but it remains an absolutely stunning work of art. AAA open world action with a gripping story and giant dinosaur robots to boot. It was compared favourably to Breath of the Wild, but while that game has mostly stayed at full price, Horizon can be yours for only a tenner.
If you spend a lot of time on Xbox, an Xbox Ultimate subscription makes for a very fine investment. Free games each month, plus discounts and extra in-game content. Not to mention, from now until the end of January you can get a free thirty day trial of Disney Plus. All that for half price? You betcha.
Not terribly exciting, but this Samsung SATA SSD card is amazing value, half price at £100 off. If you’ve got a PC that’s starting to get sluggish, this drive is a superb investment, a quick, easy, and mercifully cheap way to dramatically improve performance.
Lastly… if the relentless consumerism is getting you down, you can support charity and some indie creators by getting yourself a Humble Choice Premium subscription. $303 dollars worth of curated PC games (including the one below), yours to keep forever, now $5 less a month. Treat yourself to a feel-good discount. You deserve it!
