Look at this beautiful frog, my sweet, sweet boy. My treasure. My one and only. This adorable little creature is now viewable via the Pardall Games library, which has pretty much every 3D model from Final Fantasy 7 (the 1997 one) available for your viewing pleasure.

I cannot overstate how cool this thing is—the viewer allows you to hop into basically any model from the game, including summon animations, and easily rotate it in a 3D environment. You can also do this with some of the game’s map screens to see the difference between how the game presents it and the actual meshes on display. Behold: I have shredded 7th Heaven.

As for why I’m excited about the frog, this little guy has been subject to memes for a while. Not just because of his gorgeous, polygonal form—not just because of his sensual little hip-wiggle, but because in the original version of the game he was named “Touch Me.”

Curious as to why this frog was named Touch Me, I dug around a bit to find out why. I have trapped you in this article, you will now find out why this frog was called Touch Me. A dastardly ploy for which I make no apologies.

So in FF7, these little creatures are called Tacchi Mī (タッチミー). This is what’s known as a gairaigo, or a loan term—a word that’s snapped up from another language and survives mostly unchanged. Sort of how you might still call something a coup d’état in English. Other Japanese words like this include aisu-kyandī (アイスキャンディー), which means an ice lollipop (ice candy), or charenji (チャレンジ), which means challenge.

Anyway, when the Tacchi Mī was translated into English, it was given the most literal translation possible: And thus, Touch Me was born. But because Square Enix are cowards, these critters were called Amphidex (Amphidexes? Amphidexi?) in the Rebirth remake. And now you can rotate Touch Me to your heart’s content. Or even turn Touch Me into a little gif. Look at this guy go.
