Armored Core 6 is one of the best mech builders in gaming, and this pitch-perfect Sailor Moon AC is just more proof of that

FromSoftware’s continued silence on a series tradition expansion/mini-sequel to Armored Core 6 remains one of the great tragedies of my life, but the game’s fan community has stayed vibrant. AC buildmaster and YouTuber Thryfe recently stole my heart with a fantastic Sailor Moon “cosplay” mech.

Thryfe’s whole deal is rolling out creative or novelty builds for AC6 PvP. This has usually taken the form of recreating ACs from previous entries of the series, like No Count, Noblesse Oblige, and White Glint from Armored Core 4. Thryfe first rolled out his Sailor Moon build last July, but has recently highlighted it again via YouTube Shorts.

The attention to detail on the paint job is what really sells things for me, particularly how well Thryfe mapped the distinctive color scheme onto an incongruously harsh, industrial mech shell. He made some really inspired choices with the parts, too. What usually scans as some kind of armored tabard on the Alba legs makes for a perfect girlypop skirt in this context.

The Alba arms’ shoulder pads easily scan as a blouse’s short sleeves, and I never would have thought to repurpose the insectoid Verril head as a face with pigtails. The Moonlight sword was also a great choice: Its striking curve and sleek profile give it more of a fantasy vibe than any other weapon in AC6. The build also does great work in PvP, as the main body of Thryfe’s video demonstrates. After some post-launch buffs, that Moonlight sword can be built into as one of the best stagger punishes in the game.

Mech building is one of the best parts of Armored Core, combining the joys of RPG character building with the sort of vehicle customization I associate with a racing game garage. The stats of your individual mech parts matter much more than armor in FromSoft’s Elden Soulsborne games, so I find I have even more respect for a well-executed Fashion Core that can still hold its own in high-level PvP—In Elden Ring, it’s all about the fashion, so you really don’t have an excuse to dress shabbily.
