Baldur’s Gate 3 getting yet another gargantuan update in 2025

The next big Baldur’s Gate 3 update, known simply as Patch 8, will add cross-play, a photo mode, and 12 new subclasses when it drops in 2025.

Cross-play will allow multiplayer between every platform where the game exists, from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to Windows and Mac. Photo mode will provide a variety of camera, lens, and scene settings as well as post-processing effects, frames, and stickers to make your party look as cool, cute, or menacing as possible.

Additionally, every Baldur’s Gate 3 class will receive one new subclass from which to choose as they level up. Subscribing to the College of Glamour, for instance, will allow Bards more opportunities to heal allies and charm enemies, while the Monk’s Drunken Master subclass revolves around consuming alcohol from your inventory to augment their abilities.

Here’s the full list of subclasses and their corresponding starter classes:

  • College of Glamour (Bard)
  • Path of Giants (Barbarian)
  • Death Domain (Cleric)
  • Circle of Stars (Druid)
  • Oath of the Crown (Paladin)
  • Arcane Archer (Fighter)
  • Drunken Master (Monk)
  • Swarmkeeper (Ranger)
  • Swashbuckler (Rogue)
  • Shadow Magic (Sorcerer)
  • Hexblade (Warlock)
  • Bladesinging (Wizard)

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios isn’t ready to commit to a firm release date for Patch 8, but Baldur’s Gate 3 players can get an early look at these upcoming features by participating in a stress test tentatively planned for early January. More info on how to join is still forthcoming.

Despite being an open book about the future — it won’t be making Baldur’s Gate 4 or even downloadable content for Baldur’s Gate 3 — Larian Studios is clearly looking to wrap up development on the 2023 Game of the Year with a bang.
