Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Order of the Ancients Location and Clues Guide

Each member of the Order keeps their identity a secret, and as they are people of importance, they’ll do anything to exert control and maintain their dominance from the shadows, which has given them a stranglehold on England since The Hidden Ones abandoned the area after the fall of the Roman Empire.

!! SPOILER WARNING !!
This page contains spoilers for the identities of the Order of the Ancients, some of which may be central characters to the story.

While it isn’t your main objective, you’ll be tasked with uncovering the identities of each Order member in your adventure and eliminating them to find their mysterious leader – and many of them may appear during main story quests.

Unlike Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, taking out the Order is a completely optional engagement that only begins once you have settled in Ravensthorpe and built a Hidden Ones Bureau for Hytham. In return, you’ll be told about these mysterious orders, offered rewards for taking them out and bringing back the pendants they wear.

Every cultist leader is hiding somewhere in the world, and can be uncovered via various clues or by killing order members in the same group – or their deadly wandering enforcers: the Zealots.

While the mysterious templars are not given a power level, they are likely tied to the level of the region they are harboring inside. However, their Zealot enforcers do have a power level that often dwarfs that of the landscape around them.

To view more information on the individual order members, their locations, and the clues to uncover them on the map, see the list of targets below:

This section contains information on the Order of the Ancients targets known as the Wardens of War – those found on the right side of the Order Menu.

Note that several of these members can only be unveiled during the story arc that takes place in Lunden, unlocked by talking to Hytham after building The Hidden Ones’ Bureau.

Kjotve the Cruel (The Axe)

  • Approx. Level: 1
  • Group: Warden of War
  • Location: Kjotve’s Fortress, Rygjafylke – Norway

Kjotve is only identified as a member of the Order of the Ancients after his death, and is fought early on in the story quest – A Cruel Destiny. As such, there are no clues to reveal him, but his pendant does count towards your reward once you build The Hidden Ones Bureau in Ravensthorpe.

Kjotve is still a dangerous foe – but you can’t exactly die to him for story reasons. He employs lots of unblockable attacks with dual heavy weapons, so be ready to sidestep them, get a few hits in, then back off and be ready to block or parry his strong or regular attacks.

Once you’re thrown into a pit, be wary, as he can toss dead bodies at you – so be ready to dodge and then counter attack.

Leofgifu (The Scabbard)

  • Approx Level: 20
  • Group: Warden of War
  • Location: Utbech, Grantebridescire – England

Leofgifu is the second order member in the Wardens of War, and will be automatically unveiled after fully building the Hidden Ones Bureau in Ravensthorpe.

Leofgifu makes her camp in Utbech, a swampy region just north of the city of Grantebridge along the river. She herself usually stays by the river’s edge, guarded by several other enemies and a few vipers lurking in the reeds.

She wields a spear, and due to her positioning it can be hard to approach her unseen. However, he place along the riverside makes her an easy target to attack as a raiding party from your longboat, using your allies to help take her down quickly.

Hunta, Son of Hunta (The Baldric)

  • Approx Level: 20
  • Group: Warden of War
  • Location: Ledecestre, Ledecestrscire – England

Hunta is the third order member in the Wardens of War, and will be automatically unveiled after fully building The Hidden Ones Bureau in Ravensthorpe.

Hunta can be found inspecting many of the merchant tents on the north side of the city of Ledecestre, just above the large church, and is surrounded by a group of guards who monitor him all day.

While he does wield an impressive bow and is backed by several guards in a place that is already distrustful of outsiders, it is possible to eliminate him quickly with an air assassination. From the church, look for the scaffolds and long ropes that cross among the statues to get above your target and deal death from above.

  • Approx. Level: 90
  • Group: Warden of War
  • Location: Lunden

Sister Frideswid is the fourth member of the Wardens of War. You can uncover her identity by following the Lunden storyline while working on the quest, Bleeding The Leech. This quest also leads to killing Sister Frideswid, The Leech.

(Note in underground Lunden while doing the Walls and Shadows quest)Clue: Completing an archery challenge during Firing the Arrow leads to their identity being revealed.

Upon completing the archery challenge to meet Avges Spearhand, you’ll get an opportunity to take him out. You’ll appear on stage alongside several other archers from the competition while The Arrow gives a speech. If you wait for his speech to end, he’ll eventually turn around and walk away from any nearby guards.

Take advantage of this moment to assassinate The Arrow quietly. Depending on your assassination damage, you may need to use the Advanced Assassination skill to kill him in one hit. The Arrow drops the predator bow, Bullseye, on death.

Vicelin (The Compass)

  • Approx. Level: 90
  • Group: Warden of War
  • Location: Lunden

Vicelin, the Compass, is the sixth member of the Wardens of War. You can uncover his identity by following the Lunden storyline while working on the quest, Walls and Shadows. Then, you’ll learn more about who the Compass is in the quest, Smash the Compass.

Similar to your first fight with a member of the Order of the Ancients, The Compass has a boss health bar. While making your way over to The Compass, you can use the siege crossbows to fire a shot or two at him. However, he’ll quickly destroy it, preventing you from taking advantage of it much. You’re better off trying to blow up the explosive pots near him when he gets close. This can light him on fire dealing decent damage over time.

The Compass primarily swings unblockable attacks at the area in front of him while moving toward you. Try to stay out of the way and/or dodge these attacks since they can’t be parried or blocked.

Clue: The Keel is a Norseman who left Rygajafylke. (Building The Hidden ones Bureau)Clue: The Keel is a bearded man. (Killing Leofgifu)Clue: The Keel commands a powerful ship and crew. (Killing Hunta)Clue: The Keel knows Eivor personally. (Killing The Leech)Clue: The Keel is a great traveler. (Killing The Arrow)Clue: Killing The Compass reveals The Keel’s identity.

Your main disadvantage hunting The Keel is that you can’t take your weapons and gear with you to Vinland where he is. This means you’ll have to barter resources with the people here to get new weapons and gear if you want the help. Otherwise, you can follow the storyline here and try to take out The Keel without using any weapons.

If you’re wondering where The Keel is, you can find him at the northwest corner of Vinland. He has a large camp named Narfljot Camp that’s filled with patrolling guards. The main trick for taking out The Keel is sneaking near the center of the camp to trigger his speech. Then, sneak back out and circle around to the back of the camp where a cave is. Gorm will be focused on a ram near the cave entrance and you can assassinate him here. You may need the skill Advanced Assassination to one-hit him.

However, you can use a bow to blow up the explosive pots nearby. This can take out at least one guard and potentially two. Then, you can use the ruins nearby to drop down on The Oil or any remaining guards.

Clue: Investigate the festival near Henge Farm south of Stonehenge in Hamtunscire (Kill The Adze)Clue: Search the pig farm at Readingum Abbey in Hamtunscire. However, there are three guards near them that have each angle covered nearby. If you drop down on one guard and then run up to assassinate the other two, you may be able to do this without attracting more attention. A well-timed bow shot doesn’t hurt as well. The Bell won’t fight back, which leaves for an easy assassination if the guards are dealt with.

This will cause a panic in the crowd and force any guards near Selwyn to attack the boars. Due to the chaos, you’ll have a good opportunity to strike Selwyn from above for a one-hit assassination kill. So long as you don’t wait too long, the guards are likely to still be occupied with the boars and not even notice your kill.

  • Approx. Level: 250
  • Group: Warden of Faith
  • Location: Wincestre

Ealhferth, The Seax, is the sixth member of the Wardens of Faith. Their storyline starts with the possibility that they may already be dead and dealt with. Unfortunately, watching the crowd won’t give you too many clues as to who they are. You’ll need to wait for Ealhferth to start shouting before charging in after King Aelfred to kill him. A good way to get a quick and clean assassination kill on him is to wait above King Aelfred on the ropes.

Sister Blaeswith, The Archbishop’s Shadow (The Rake)

  • Approx. Level: 130
  • Group: Warden of Wealth
  • Location: St. Martin’s Church in Canterbury, Cent

Sister Blaeswith, The Archbishop’s Shadow, The Rake, is the Maegester of the Wardens of Faith. While she won’t fight back like some of the tougher Order of the Ancients members, she’s still surrounded by guards. Fortunately, there are many hazards in the area that you can use for taking out patrolling guards. If you time it right, there’s a nearby crate held up in the air with a bolt you can shoot to take out three guards. Also, you can use the buildings in the area to perform a stealth assassination on The Rake, despite guards likely becoming alert.

Fulke The Instrument

  • Approx. Level: 160
  • Group: Warden of Relics
  • Location: Suthsexe

Fulke, the Instrument, is the only member of her group, Warden of Relics, and first appears during the Cent storyline, The Instrument of the Ancients. Despite working with her during this portion of the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla story, Fulke reveals her true role with the Order of the Ancients. Eventually, you’ll have an opportunity to kill Fulke during the quest, Storming the Walls.

Clue: The Instrument is revealed when Fulke betrays you in the quest, A Bloody Welcome.

There are two phases while fighting Fulke, the Instrument, with the first one starting underground. There seems to be a mechanic where she destroys the torch in the room making it dark. You can likely still use Odin’s Sight to see where Fulke is as a form of night vision.

However, if you manage to drop Fulke down to 1/4th of her health, she’ll run away causing a cutscene.
This leads to the second phase of your fight with Fulke above ground. In spite of trying to run away, your allies are already up top creating a circle to continue your one on one duel. As Fulke no longer has a weapon, she’ll grab a grave cross to use against you. If you stun her by depleting her yellow health bar, she’ll drop the cross and become vulnerable to rapid attacks. This makes the rest of the fight easier as she’ll struggle to return an attack.

A brief reminder that the Zealot enforcers can be found wandering along roads, which means they don’t have a set location. They can wander slightly between regions even though they may stick to one more often than others. A good way to know when you’re near a Zealot is that a horn will begin blowing. Then, so long as you get close or scan them with Odin’s Sight, you’ll have a permanent map marker of where they are.

Redwalda is one of the lower power Zealots you’ll likely end up fighting first in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. They’re a good example of a frustrating enemy if you’re used to wailing on guards with shields. Unfortunately, you can’t break through Redwalda’s shield with heavy attacks, so you’ll need to wait for an opening. Dodging their attacks and then following up with a short combo is an efficient way to take them out.

Redwalda drops a Desperate Deft Rune for weapons. It increases critical chance when at low health.

Eorforwine

Eorforwine is another Zealot that wields an impenetrable shield, similar to Redwalda. Be prepared to rely heavily on your dodging skills to get a moment where they’re vulnerable. Eorforwine has two major moves to watch out for aside from a few red attacks that aren’t blockable.

  • They’ll throw multiple poison grenades that leave a poison gas cloud behind. You’ll take damage while standing in it.
  • They’ll drink something mid-battle to heal health. Unless you attack them to interrupt this action, they may heal a lot.

Eorforwine drops a Thegn Rune for armor that increases speed after successfully parrying.

Kendall

Cola

  • Suggested Power: 90
  • Location: Northeast corner of Ledecestre, bordering Lincolnscire

Cudberct

  • Suggested Power: 90
  • Location: Oxenefordscire, slightly northwest of Lunden

Cudberct can be a tough Zealot to fight because of their quick spear attacks. The constant combo attacks and lunging toward you makes it easy to run out of stamina without realizing it. Unless you’re able to get a hit in or dodge an attack, you’ll likely run out of energy and get hurt. Be careful of Cudberct’s poison grenades as well. They’ll leave behind a poison cloud that only hurts you while inside it.

Cudberct drops a Chained Perfection Rune for weapons that increases critical damage after each hit. This effect can stack up to 10 times. Also, Cudberct provides a clue for Order of the Ancients member, The Anvil.

Wuffa

  • Suggested Power: 160
  • Location: East Anglia

Wuffa is a Zealot that can be found wandering around East Anglia. It’s possible they may drop a clue for The Ash-Spear if you haven’t already gotten one for this Order of the Ancients member. Also, Wuffa drops the Thegn Rune for armor slots that increases speed after successful parries.

Woden

  • Suggested Power: 220
  • Location: Cent, south of Beamasfield

Woden is a Zealot with a lot of tricks alongside a quick fighting style. Be careful of Woden trying to charge toward you with most of their attacks. This often prevents you from running away and forces well-timed dodges and/or parries to survive. Here are some attacks and tricks to watch out for while fighting Woden:

  • Switches to a bow sometimes if there’s some distance between you and them. There’s a ranged combo where they shoot multiple arrows quickly while getting close to you for a melee attack.
  • They may throw explosive mines at you.
  • They have flashbang bombs that will make it difficult to see, but still possible to fight.
  • Woden creates a ring of fire around themselves making it difficult to get close.

Woden also provides a clue for Order of the Ancients member, The Sickle, if you haven’t already gotten one. While they don’t seem to drop a rune like many other Zealots, they drop an odd item instead. A Mysterious Halter Tablet that says it’s an ancient artifact that may be of some use one day. This may be related to the legendary weapon, Excalibur.

  • Suggested Power: 220
  • Location: Lincolnseire, north of Medeshamstede Abbey

  • Suggested Power: 250
  • Location: Essexe, south of Agnitum Tower

  • Suggested Power: 280
  • Location: Suthexe, southeast of Crawleah

Callin

  • Suggested Power: 280
  • Location: Eurvicscire, east of Jorvik, along the coast.

Callin is an annoying Zealot to fight primarily because their entire kit revolves around poison. While you may have dealt with poison grenades from other Zealots, Callin takes things to a new level. Make sure you don’t use poisonous abilities on them, because they seem immune to poison debuffs. Aside from multiple poisonous attacks, Callin is also another agile Zealot with quick attacks. Here are some mechanics to prepare for:

  • They’ll shoot poisonous arrows that are visibly green. If you use the skill Missile Reversal to shoot it back, they’ll take damage but won’t be poisoned by it.
  • They’ll throw grenades that emit poison clouds, similar to other Zealots.
  • They’ll imbue their sword with poison making it glow green, providing the poison debuff on hit.

Callin drops Thor’s Rune for armor slots that increases armor when stunning an enemy.

King Aelfred (The Father)

  • Approx. Level: N/a
  • Group: Warden of Wealth
  • Location: Hamtunscire

King Aelfred, The Father, is the Grand Maegester of the Order of the Ancients. Despite being the leader of the Order, his goal was to help The Hidden Ones and Eivor take them out from within. Once you’ve taken out every single Order member, including the Zealots, Hytham will mention having an informant with information about who The Father is. This leads you to finding King Aelfred as the informant instead. During a cutscene, Aelfred gives you the final Order medallion and reveals his original goal to destroy The Order from within. Unfortunately, the arrival of the Danes prevented him from doing that himself.
