Ubisoft said that the game is \u201cfeature complete,\u201d but that the company considered the \u201csofter than expected\u201d reception of <em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> in deciding the delay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><em>Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows <\/em>was set to be previewed by media soon, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said on a conference call, but the company wants to make sure the game meets ambitions. (Those preview events have since been canceled.) The \u201clearnings\u201d from <em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> \u201cled [Ubisoft] to provide additional time to further polish the title,\u201d the publisher said in a news release. <em>Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows<\/em> will now be released Feb. 14, 2025, on all platforms, including Steam. (<em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> has yet to be released on Steam, but is scheduled for Nov. 21.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cThis will enable the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, notably by fulfilling the promise of our dual protagonist adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different gameplay styles,\u201d Ubisoft said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Both <em>Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows<\/em> and <em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> have been targeted in culture war discourse over character designs: <em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> for Kay Vess\u2019 appearance, and <em>Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows<\/em> for \u201cconcerns\u201d over historical accuracy with its Black samurai, Yasuke. Guillemot alluded to this as \u201cpolarized comments,\u201d noting that Ubisoft\u2019s goal is \u201cnot to push any specific agenda.\u201d On the conference call, Guillemont said a \u201cproblem of perception [\u2026] has been affecting the company\u2019s performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">His full statement, via the news release, is as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-none is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Finally, let me address some of the polarized comments around Ubisoft lately. I want to reaffirm that we are an entertainment-first company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push any specific agenda. We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In July, <em>Star Wars Outlaws<\/em> creative director Julian Gerighty told the Washington Post that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/video-games\/2024\/07\/30\/star-wars-outlaws-kay-vess-preview\/\">this discourse is \u201cnot worth engaging with<\/a>.\u201d He continued: \u201cIf you engage with bad-faith people, there\u2019s no nuance and no possibility of real dialogue.
