Gabe and co. have yet to acknowledge that such a game even exists, and yet for several months, invites to a closed playtest of Deadlock have reached thousands of Steam users&#8217; inboxes.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone who&#8217;s playing Deadlock has been instructed not to talk about it, though that hasn&#8217;t stopped <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/third-person-shooter\/over-90-deadlock-videos-have-now-leaked-but-valves-still-acting-like-nothings-happened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dozens of gameplay videos and impression threads from appearing online<\/a>. Thousands of people are playing Deadlock every day, and by the look of it, the number of invites going out is on the rise.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-do-you-get-into-the-deadlock-playtest-6\">How do you get into the Deadlock playtest?<\/h2>\n<p>Right now we know of two ways to gain access to Deadlock:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Randomly get invited by Valve<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Get invited by a friend who&#8217;s already in the playtest<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Deadlock playtesters can recommend their Steam friends for invites, but they have to provide that friend&#8217;s email alongside their profile. <strong>Even a recommendation doesn&#8217;t guarantee an invite<\/strong>\u2014from what we&#8217;ve heard, most eventually do get in, but it can take a few days.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:1455px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:45.70%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"uffDEECYWVA5L8hB2nKfPX\" name=\"deadlock invite\" alt=\"deadlock steam invite\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/how-to-get-into-the-deadlock-playtest.png\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"\" width=\"1455\" height=\"665\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Valve)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not lucky enough to know a guy who knows a guy, then you may win the jackpot by doing nothing. <strong>Valve has been gradually sending out Deadlock invites in waves<\/strong>, and in the last week, the number of playtesters has skyrocketed. The invites really do appear random: it&#8217;s safe to assume Valve was focused on getting feedback from experienced Dota 2 players early on, but recently, people with little-to-zero experience with Valve&#8217;s multiplayer games have made the cut.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no evidence that you can juice your chances at a Deadlock invite by suddenly playing lots of Dota, as <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/dont-bother-playings-loads-of-csgo-now-if-you-want-in-on-the-counter-strike-2-test-valve-doesnt-care\/\">some attempted with CS:GO during Counter-Strike 2&#8217;s playtest last year<\/a>, so no need to waste the energy. Mathematically, your chances get better every day. In early August, Deadlock reached a record <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/we-can-all-see-that-valves-unannounced-shooter-deadlock-just-hit-over-18000-concurrent-players-gabe\/\">18,000 concurrent players<\/a>.
