The deal will also see Embracer halt all operations in Russia, which the company said in a presentation &#8220;reduces geopolitical risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am pleased that we have found a win-win solution for Embracer and the parts of Saber that now will leave us,&#8221; Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said in the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/embracer.com\/releases\/embracer-group-ceases-all-operations-in-russia-through-the-divestment-of-selected-assets-from-the-operative-group-saber-interactive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a>. &#8220;This transaction puts both companies in a stronger position to thrive going forward. Embracer is now able to discontinue all operations in Russia, according to a previous board decision, while safeguarding many developer jobs under new independent ownership.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the same time, we keep key companies, valuable IPs and future publishing rights. Cash flow is immediately improved, and we remain committed to reducing net debt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As Wingefors said, the deal will see most of the studios operating as part of Embracer&apos;s Saber Interactive division, but not all of them, go to Beacon. Studios leaving Embracer as part of the sale include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All Saber-branded studios<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>DIGIC<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fractured Bye<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mad Head Games<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>New World Interactive<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nimble Giant<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Saber Interactive Inc<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sandbox Strategies<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Slipgate<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>3D Realms<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Embracer will retain some big names that were previously operating under the Saber division:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>34 Big Things<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>4A Games<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aspyr<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Beamdog<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Demiurge<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Shiver<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Snapshot<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tripwire Interactive<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuxedo Labs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Zen Studios<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, the deal also includes an option to enable Beacon to acquire 4A Games and Zen Studios &#8220;within a certain time period,&#8221; and according to Bloomberg&apos;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jasonschreier\/status\/1768216189661024581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Schreier<\/a>, Karch has already said that Saber is picking them up too. If so, that will reportedly bump the purchase price up to roughly $500 million, although the terms of the option were not revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Embracer said 38 projects currently in development are included with the sale, while 14\u2014including two &#8220;joint projects&#8221; with Beacon\u2014will be retained. Those include &#8220;the next AAA game from 4A Games,&#8221; which is presumably the next Metro, Killing Floor 3, the ongoing development of Teardown, and &#8220;the full upcoming pipeline and back catalog from Zen Studios, Aspyr, and Tripwire.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That last bit might feel like a bit of a dodged bullet for Knights of the Old Republic fans. Aspyr was working on the Schrodinger&apos;s Cat-alike KOTOR remake, but was <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/knights-of-the-old-republic-remake-is-delayed-indefinitely-according-to-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pulled off the project<\/a> in mid-2022. It&apos;s reportedly not dead, although <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/sources-claim-the-knights-of-the-old-republic-remake-isnt-dead-though-whats-really-going-on-is-anyones-guess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what&apos;s really going on is anyone&apos;s guess<\/a>, but responsibility for the remake was reportedly included with the Saber sale, which may\u2014dare we dream\u2014mean that it actually might get made at some point.<\/p>\n<p>(Aspyr&apos;s recent performance with <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/probably-one-of-the-worst-launches-of-all-time-star-wars-battlefront-classic-collection-players-tear-into-aspyr-for-bugs-crashes-and-3-64-player-launch-servers-for-nearly-10000-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection<\/a> may also prompt some quiet sense of relief that someone else is doing the KOTOR remake.)<\/p>\n<div class=\"inlinegallery inline-layout\">\n<div class=\"inlinegallery-wrap\" style=\"display:flex; and more importantly, that it &#8220;safeguards the livelihoods of hundreds of professionals.&#8221; Sell-offs and acquisitions don&apos;t necessarily ensure job security (especially in this business) but for now it&apos;s a far better outcome than the fates suffered by some Embracer studios, including <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/timesplitters-studio-free-radical-design-has-closed-employees-say-we-join-an-ever-growing-list-of-casualties-in-a-broken-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Free Radical Design<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/saints-row-studio-volition-has-been-closed-immediately-as-part-of-embracers-restructuring-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volition<\/a>, which were closed outright following the collapse of a $2 billion investment deal that sent Embracer into a spiral.<\/p>\n<p>Wingefors described the Saber sale as &#8220;the first transaction&#8221; of its previously announced recovery plan, suggesting that more is on the way\u2014possibly including the finalization of a Gearbox sale, which is rumored to be in the &#8220;<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/borderlands-studio-gearbox-reportedly-in-the-late-stages-of-a-sale-as-embracer-group-continues-to-hack-off-parts-of-itself-to-keep-the-lights-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">late stages<\/a>&#8221; of completion.<\/p>\n<p>He also seemed to be choosing his words a little more carefully, saying the deal &#8220;marks a small but important step in our journey to transform Embracer into the future for the benefit of all employees, gamers, and shareholders.&#8221; That stands in sharp contrast to previous statements from Embracer executives, including Wingefors, which have been focused squarely on the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/embracer-reveals-it-laid-off-around-1400-people-in-6-months-last-year-but-dont-be-a-bellyacher-this-is-all-about-maximising-shareholder-value\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">well-being of shareholders<\/a>\u2014and which have not gone over particularly well with anyone else.
