It&apos;s headed up by former Witcher 2 and 3 quest designer Jakub Rokosz, served as a support studio for Baldur&apos;s Gate 3, and is also developing the remake of CD Projekt&apos;s first RPG <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/the-witcher-cd-projekts-first-game-is-getting-a-full-remake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Witcher<\/a>. Even so, it&apos;s not an especially well-known studio, nor is The Thaumaturge a very high-profile game. We&apos;ve already got <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/suicide-squad-kill-the-justice-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/helldivers-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Helldivers 2<\/a>, and very soon we&apos;ll also have <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/banishers-ghosts-of-new-eden-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Banishers: Ghost of New Eden<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/skull-and-bones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skull and Bones<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/last-epoch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Last Epoch<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/pacific-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pacific Drive<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/nightingale-stands-out-from-the-co-op-survival-game-crowd-with-compelling-world-building-and-the-power-to-create-and-explore-your-own-magical-realms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nightingale<\/a>, and a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/february-2024-pc-game-release-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whole pile of others<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>March, by comparison, is a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/new-games-2024-upcoming-pc-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">little lighter<\/a>. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/expeditions-a-mudrunner-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expeditions: A MudRunner Game<\/a> is coming the day after The Thaumaturge&apos;s new launch date, and then we&apos;ll get <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/lightyear-frontier-makes-mechs-cozy-with-its-low-stress-approach-to-alien-planet-environmentalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lightyear Frontier<\/a> on March 19, the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/alone-in-the-dark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alone in the Dark<\/a> reboot on March 20, and then\u2014this will be a big day\u2014<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/dragon-s-dogma-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dragon&apos;s Dogma 2<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/horizon-forbidden-west\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horizon Forbidden West<\/a> both on March 21.<\/p>\n<p>Delaying a game to avoid other games isn&apos;t entirely unprecedented: Back in 2020, multiple studios decided they&apos;d rather wait a little longer to put their games out rather than throw hands with <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/cyberpunk-2077-claims-another-victim-the-medium-is-delayed-until-january\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cyberpunk 2077<\/a>. In this case it&apos;s not one particular behemoth causing all the trouble, just an overcrowded calendar, but that&apos;s a challenge facing every developer whose games don&apos;t have a high profile in advance: How do you give your game a chance to get some traction when so many other games are dropping all around it, all the time?<\/p>\n<p>The Thaumaturge looks like it deserves a fair shot. It follows the story of Wiktor Szulski, a descendent of a long line of mystics who can see and tame otherworldly creatures called salutors, enabling him to &#8220;discover secrets hidden within the human soul and speak to the Darkness.&#8221; It promises a story-rich game with &#8220;morally ambiguous choices,&#8221; set in a &#8220;heavily researched&#8221; take on Warsaw in the early 20th century, &#8220;where crime and luxury are often two sides of the same coin.&#8221; You&apos;ll also spend some time hanging with Rasputin.
