The show is aiming to break its own records again this year after reaching new heights in viewership with The Game Awards 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/12\/20\/the-game-awards-breaks-new-records-with-2021-viewership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which reached an audience of 85 million people<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/the-game-awards-return-this-december-1.jpg\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" alt=\"\" class=\"image-style-body-default\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>The show will also feature a new category for Best Adaptation, which is &#8220;a category to recognize creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, and comic books.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This category sounds like one that will recognize movies like <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/movie-review\/2021\/04\/22\/mortal-kombat-movie-review-a-strong-first-round\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mortal Kombat<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/movie-review\/2022\/05\/24\/sonic-the-hedgehog-2-movie-review-full-speed-ahead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/a><\/em> as well as other video game adaptations such as the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/opinion\/2022\/05\/16\/why-the-halo-tv-show-isnt-working\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Halo TV series<\/a><\/em> or comics like <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/02\/25\/fortnite-and-marvel-team-up-for-another-comic-book-crossover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fortnite&#8217;s Zero War series<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to tip its hat to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds lore and context to our favorite gaming franchises,&#8221; The Game Awards creator and executive producer Geoff Keighley writes in a press release. &#8220;With so many game-inspired projects across entertainment, the time is right to honor excellence\u00a0in adapting video game worlds to other mediums.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like in years past, The Game Awards 2022 will feature &#8220;spectacular new game announcements and world premieres,&#8221; as well as musical performances, including the return of The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe.
