Red Candle Games, the Taiwan-based video game developer behind horror titles like Detention and Devotion, has launched its crowdfunding effort<\/a> for its next game, Nine Sols.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Previously announced<\/a>, Nine Sols is described by the team as \u201ca journey of Asian fantasy inspired by Sekiro, Hollow Knight, and Katana\u00a0Zero.\u201d It\u2019s also a \u201clore-rich, hand-drawn\u201d 2D action platformer with a focus on deflection in combat.\u201d Red Candle promises immersive storytelling and a unique \u201cTaopunk\u201d setting in Nine Sols, too. As for what Taopunk is, think cyberpunk meets Taoism and Far East mythology.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The studio wants to \u201cbuild a stylish Taopunk world that blends cyberpunk\/sci-fi elements with Taoism and Far Easter mythology,\u201d Red Candle writes on its crowdfunding website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It also says the team is attempting to \u201crecreate the deflection-focused Sekiro combat experience in 2D and meld it with classic side-scrolling exploration.\u201d Visually, Nine Sols will incorporate anime and manga-influenced art that\u2019s handcrafted and it will be set to the score of a \u201cdark electronic sound mixed with Eastern instruments.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In Nine Sols, players will explore a land that was once home to an ancient alien race, following a hero\u2019s quest to slay nine\u00a0Sols, which are the rulers of this forsaken realm.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a ton of additional info about Nine Sols on Red Candle\u2019s website \u2013 seriously, there\u2019s a breakdown of the story, combat mechanics including gifs that show it in action, details and art regarding the Taopunk world, and even word that the game is expected to launch on PlayStation consoles, Nintendo\u00a0consoles, and PC. Red Candle doesn\u2019t name the platforms because it says it recognizes that Nine Sol\u2019s development is \u201cin between console generations,\u201d making it \u201cdifficult to provide a definitive list of support platforms at the moment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Red Candle is looking to raise NT$ 3 million, which is the equivalent of roughly $106,000 USD. It has already raised 81% of that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNine Sols has been an ongoing project of Red Candle for more than two years,\u201d Red Candle\u2019s site reads. \u201cWe actually began looking at prototypes for this game a couple months after the launch of Devotion, so we are thoroughly committed to this project. We want to state clearly that the crowdfunding campaign will not alter the fate of Nine Sols, meaning that we will do our absolute best to complete the game regardless of the result.<\/p>\n

The truth is, the main goal of this campaign is to receive feedback from you. As always, our main concern is about what you, the player, thinks of our game.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
