LTD., a long-time development partner that has worked on titles within franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been paying attention to the video game industry as of late, you likely already know that 2022 has so far been defined by one word: acquisitions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It started with Take-Two Interactive, the parent company behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announcing back in January that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/01\/10\/take-two-acquires-zynga-for-nearly-13-billion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it was acquiring mobile giant Zynga for nearly $13 billion<\/a>. Then, a week later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/01\/18\/microsoft-and-xbox-acquire-activision-blizzard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft announced that it was acquiring Activision Blizzard<\/a>, the company behind Overwatch and Call of Duty, for a colossal $68.7 billion, and then two weeks later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/01\/31\/sony-announces-its-acquiring-bungie-for-36-billion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sony revealed it was buying Bungie<\/a>, the developer behind Destiny 2, for $3.6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo revealed earlier this month that despite acquisitions happening throughout the industry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/02\/03\/nintendo-isnt-changing-its-investment-plans-in-light-of-recent-acquisitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it wasn\u2019t going to change its investment plans<\/a>. It also revealed that it\u2019s not against acquisitions they deem necessary and it seems acquiring SRD was the next necessary move for the Kyoto-based company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SRD was founded in 1979 and has worked closely with Nintendo for decades, as reported by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/nintendo-continues-its-development-expansion-with-acquisition-of-long-time-partner-srd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video Games Chronicle<\/a><\/em>. Not only has it worked with Nintendo on Mario and Zelda games, but the studio has helped develop Animal Crossing entries, Game Builder Garage, 1-2 Switch, and Ring Fit Adventure. This acquisition transaction is expected to be complete by April 1, 2022, and at the time of this writing, a price has not been named.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo said in a statement that acquiring SRD will \u201cserve to strengthen the management base of SRD and secure the availability of software development resources for Nintendo,\u201d according to <em>Video Games Chronicle<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s news about this acquisition is the first following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/01\/05\/luigis-mansion-3-studio-next-level-games-acquired-by-nintendo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nintendo\u2019s purchase of Luigi\u2019s Mansion 3 developer, Next Level Games<\/a>, back in January of last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>[Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/nintendo-continues-its-development-expansion-with-acquisition-of-long-time-partner-srd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video Games Chronicle<\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2022\/02\/24\/nintendo-acquires-srd-a-development-studio-it-has-worked-with-for-decades\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Developer: Nintendo Nintendo has announced that it is acquiring SRD Co.
