Now, Sega has announced that it is leaving the business of arcades entirely, ending a 50-year era defined by claw machines, fighters, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This news comes by way of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/sega-arcade-business-sammy-gigo-japan-arcade-centers\/?utm_source=feedly&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=sega-arcade-business-sammy-gigo-japan-arcade-centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Destructoid<\/a><\/em>, which translated a statement released by Sega\u00a0this morning. In it, the company reveals that it intends to sell the remaining 14.9% of shares it holds within its arcade division to another company named Genda Inc., which <em>Destructoid<\/em> reports is the same company that Sega has been selling its arcade centers to over the last few years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSega stores across the country will be switching their store names to GiGO, to express our gratitude for Sega\u2019s 56 years of history and our desire to be an oasis that quenches people\u2019s thirst for real entertainment,\u201d Genda chairman Hisashi Kataoka said in regards to the news, according to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/after-50-years-sega-arcades-are-officially-set-to-disappear-from-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video Games Chronicle<\/a><\/em>. \u201cWe will start with Ikebukuro, Akihabara, and Shinjuku. Then to the whole country.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Sega branding on standing arcade centers will begin to be replaced by GiGO Entertainment branding.
