Netflix is developing a “Scott Pilgrim” anime with creator and graphic novel artist Bryan Lee O\u2019Malley.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This news comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em>, which reports that O\u2019Malley will\u00a0also write and executive produce the series based on his cult-classic graphic novel series (and subsequent film). Netflix is developing the adaptation with UPC,\u00a0the group behind Netflix\u2019s The Umbrella Academy<\/em> and SyFy\u2019s Chucky<\/em> TV series.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

O\u2019Malley is writing and and executive producing this Scott Pilgrim<\/em>\u00a0anime alongside the showrunner for Nickelodeon\u2019s Are You Afraid of the Dark<\/em>? series, Ben David Grabinski. However, it\u2019s important to note that a series order has not been made, so the\u00a0anime isn\u2019t\u00a0entirely off the ground just yet \u2013 it\u2019s simply in the works for now. If it\u2019s picked up for a full series order, O\u2019Malley and Grabinski will serve as the showrunners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As far as animation goes, it\u2019s being handled by anime studio Science Saru (Devilman Crybaby<\/em>, Star Wars Visions<\/em>). Saru\u2019s Eunyoung Choi will be a producer for Scott Pilgrim<\/em>\u00a0and the company\u2019s Abel Gongora will direct the series. The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> writes that the members of the Sex Bob-omb are set to be featured in the anime, with Scott Pilgrim<\/em> movie director Edgar Wright and producing partner Nira Park also working as executive producers on the series alongside and Adam Seigel, Jared LeBoff, Marc Platt, and Michael Bacall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Scott Pilgrim” was published as six volumes between 2004 and 2010 and Wright\u2019s movie based on those volumes, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>, was released in 2010 with Michael Cera playing the titular character. There\u2019s no word if any of the cast members from that film are returning for the anime.\u00a0<\/p>\n
