More specifically, $80 million will go to members of the class-action suit, with the remaining $20 million covering legal fees for the plaintiffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>The Washington Post<\/em>&#8216;s Shannon Liao, &#8220;All current and former California employees and contractors who identify as women and worked at Riot Games between November 2014 and present day qualify for a payout.&#8221; With the number of\u00a0eligible participants counting\u00a0upwards of 2,300 women, those who have a longer tenure with the company or were employed by Riot earlier are subject to receiving a larger claim of the\u00a0payout.<\/p>\n<p>This settlement results from a\u00a0lawsuit brought against Riot Games in 2018 by former employees arguing the League of Legends developer&#8217;s work culture is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2019\/01\/15\/riot-games-introduces-new-company-values-following-toxic-workplace-allegations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deeply misogynistic<\/a>. This includes\u00a0discriminating against women in the workplace and refusing to hire\u00a0women\u00a0the company didn&#8217;t consider &#8220;core gamers.&#8221;\u00a0Originally, this suit was to be settled in 2019 for one-tenth of the amount, which we had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2019\/12\/03\/riot-games-settles-gender-discrimination-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported on<\/a> at that time.
