{"id":449768,"date":"2025-11-09T10:00:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T10:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arcader.org\/embracer-group-acquires-dark-horse-media-for-undisclosed-amount\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T10:00:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T10:00:42","slug":"embracer-group-acquires-dark-horse-media-for-undisclosed-amount","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arcader.org\/news\/embracer-group-acquires-dark-horse-media-for-undisclosed-amount\/","title":{"rendered":"Embracer Group Acquires Dark Horse Media For Undisclosed Amount"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/embracer-group-acquires-dark-horse-media-for-undisclosed-amount.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" alt=\"\" typeof=\"Image\" class=\"image-style-body-default\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>Embracer Group, the parent company of THQ Nordic, has entered into an agreement to acquire Dark Horse Media, the famed comics company and intellectual property holder of over 300 franchises.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This news comes by way of a new Embracer Group <a href=\"https:\/\/embracer.com\/release\/embracer-group-enters-into-an-agreement-to-acquire-dark-horse-and-forms-the-tenth-operative-group\/\">press release<\/a>, which reveals that \u201cdue to commercial reasons the specific transaction terms are not disclosed.\u201d Embracer says Dark Horse will become the tenth operative group within the company, which is continuing to grow thanks to today\u2019s acquisition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/02\/03\/borderlands-studio-gearbox-acquired-by-embracer-for-13-billion\">as well as recent acquisitions of Borderlands maker Gearbox<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2020\/02\/19\/world-war-z-developer-saber-interactive-acquired-by-thq-nordic-parent-company\">World War Z developer Saber Interactive<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the acquisition, Embracer strengthens its transmedia capabilities by adding expertise in content development, comics publishing, and film and TV production,\u201d the press release reads. \u201cDark Horse owns or controls more than 300 intellectual properties, many of which are attractive for future transmedia exploitation, including the creation of new video games.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite the acquisition, current Dark Horse CEO and founder Mike Richardson will continue to lead the comics maker.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t express the excitement I feel as Dark Horse moves into this new chapter in our history,\u201d Richardson writes in the press release. \u201cThe synergies that exist with the Embracer network of companies promises exciting new opportunities not only for Dark Horse, but also for the creators and companies we work with. I\u2019ve had a number of compelling conversations with Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors and I\u2019m very impressed with him and what he and his team have built. I have to say, the future of our company has never looked brighter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dark Horse was founded in 1986 by Richardson with the idea that \u201cwriters and artists were treated as partners.\u201d It\u2019s now home to Dark Horse Comics, Dark Horse Entertainment, which is behind series like <em>The Umbrella Academy<\/em> and <em>Resident Alien<\/em>, and Things From Another World, a company responsible for the creation of graphic novels, toys, statues, and other types of collectibles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This acquisition is expected to be completed by early 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Are you excited about the prospects of this acquisition?
