However, in a new Xbox-focused documentary, Microsoft seems to regret how it handled Lionhead, as reported by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/microsoft-xbox-lionhead-studios-mistake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IGN<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/11\/15\/power-on-the-story-of-xbox-six-part-documentary-announced-releasing-next-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Power On: The Story of Xbox was announced back in November<\/a>, and now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xbox.com\/en-US\/power-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the six-part documentary is available for viewing<\/a>. Running over four hours long, this documentary series covers the entire history of Xbox, including its closure of Lionhead five years ago. Xbox general manager of global games publishing, Shannon Loftis, revealed\u00a0how the company considered\u00a0this closure and how it was handled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/12\/13\/microsoft-wishes-lionhead-was-still-a-viable-studio-admits-misstep-in-how-it-handled-its\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to watch embedded media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest missteps that we learned from in the past was Lionhead,\u201d Loftis says in the sixth and final episode of the documentary series. \u201cWe had already published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/games\/fable_anniversary\/b\/xbox360\/archive\/2014\/02\/02\/fable-anniversary-review-game-informer.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fable 1<\/a>, and it was a hit\u2026People wanted more and so we bought Lionhead. Those were good years. But after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/games\/fable_2\/b\/xbox360\/archive\/2009\/09\/22\/review.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fable 2<\/a>, Kinect came along and the Fable-Kinect marriage just never really took. And then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/games\/fable_the_journey\/b\/xbox360\/archive\/2012\/10\/09\/motion-mishaps-and-the-horse-they-road-in-on.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fable: The Journey<\/a> was a passion project for a lot of people, but I think it deviated pretty significantly from the pillars of what made Fable 1 and 2 so popular.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Later in the documentary, Loftis said she wishes \u201cLionhead were still a viable studio,\u201d too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Head of game creator experiences and ecosystem at Xbox, Sarah Bond, said Lionhead\u2019s closure in 2016 was a moment of reflection for Microsoft. Bond said years later,\u00a0the team looked back on that moment to ask what it had learned and how it could avoid repeating those same mistakes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/12\/13\/microsoft-wishes-lionhead-was-still-a-viable-studio-admits-misstep-in-how-it-handled-its\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to watch embedded media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Head of Xbox Phil Spencer expanded on this and said it taught Microsoft that when it acquires a studio, it\u2019s Microsoft and Xbox\u2019s job to \u201caccelerate how they do what they do, not them accelerate what you do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Lionhead is no more, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/xbox-games-showcase\/2020\/07\/23\/fable-is-officially-coming-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xbox is officially bringing Fable back<\/a>, something it announced in 2020. This time, Playground Games, the Xbox-owned studio behind the Forza Horizon series, is developing it.
