Nintendo had a really great October if U.S. sales numbers are anything to go off of.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The NPD Group released its monthly update today<\/a>, and it revealed that the Switch was the best-selling console for October in the U.S., both in units and dollars. That\u2019s likely due to excitement around the new OLED model of the console released last month<\/a> and the launch of new first-party games such as Mario Party Superstars<\/a> and Metroid: Dread<\/a>. Speaking of Dread, it had a great October as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dread\u2019s physical dollar sales also \u201cnearly doubled those of the previous franchise best, Metroid: Prime,\u201d according to Piscatella. Congrats, Metroid fans \u2013 you did it. Now let\u2019s hope Nintendo sees this as a sign to keep the Metroid games coming.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in today\u2019s NPD report, the Switch leads consoles in units sold for 2021, but the PlayStation 5 remains the best-selling hardware platform for 2021 in terms of year-to-date dollars. This makes sense considering the PS5 costs a minimum of $400 (for the digital edition), whereas the most expensive Switch \u2013 the OLED model \u2013 goes for $350.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In terms of games, Far Cry 6<\/a> debuted as October\u2019s best-selling game, and Piscatella writes on Twitter that it \u201cinstantly\u201d became the eighth best-selling game of the year. Back 4 Blood<\/a> was behind it as the second best-selling game for October, and Dread came in third.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Other new releases this month did well\u00a0too. For example, Eidos-Montreal\u2019s Guardians of the Galaxy<\/a> debuted as the seventh best-selling game in October, with less than a week on the October market. Nintendo\u2019s Mario Party Superstars<\/a> debuted at number eight with even less time, having released just two days before October was over.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite October\u2019s numbers, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War<\/a> remains the best-selling game of 2021 \u2013 it came in as the twelfth best-selling game in October. Following it is Madden NFL 22<\/a>, which was the fourth best-selling game of last month. Here\u2019s the entire top 10\u00a0best-selling games this year:<\/p>\n
