It brings us experiences we wouldn\u2019t be able to experience otherwise, such as playing through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/review\/half-life-alyx\/half-life-alyx-review-an-amazing-return-to-city-17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Valve&#8217;s Half-Life: Alyx<\/a>, and it gives us new ways to play old classics, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/09\/27\/resident-evil-4-releases-on-vr-just-in-time-for-halloween\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resident Evil 4 VR on the Oculus Quest 2<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span>While virtual reality continues to expand in the gaming space, it\u2019s nowhere near as popular as traditional video game console experiences, and it\u2019ll likely remain that way for now. That\u2019s why Xbox is remaining committed to software, rather than hardware such as virtual reality, this generation, according to Xbox head Phil Spencer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/10\/19\/dont-expect-xbox-vr-as-microsofts-phil-spencer-says-xbox-is-focused-on-software\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to watch embedded media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the hardware innovation that\u2019s happening is great and it\u2019s an important enabler, [but] right now, I\u2019m deciding to stay more in the software side of that enablement,\u201d Spencer said during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/video\/events\/the-road-ahead-for-xbox-with-phil-spencer\/54955B37-DEC4-4C35-B0C1-74EB3C4B68F4.html\">Wall Street Journal Tech Live event<\/a>, as reported by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/xbox-is-staying-out-of-the-vr-hardware-space-says-spencer\/\">Video Games Chronicle<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI believe it will scale better in the long run.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This falls in line with Spencer\u00a0and all of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/e3-2021\/2021\/06\/10\/xbox-game-pass-changes-ahead-full-xbox-intergration-into-tvs-and-the-future-of\">Xbox\u2019s commitment to Xbox Game Pass<\/a> this console generation. Just today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/10\/19\/age-of-empires-4-the-forgotten-city-and-more-complete-octobers-xbox-game-pass-offerings\">Xbox announced that Age of Empires 4, The Forgotten City, and more would be coming to Xbox Game Pass this month<\/a>, bolstering the service\u2019s already massive\u00a0lineup of games yet again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spencer even nodded to Sony\u2019s PlayStation VR hardware during the WSJ Tech Live event, citing that he applauds what Sony, Oculus, and Valve are doing in the VR space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We\u2019re] gonna stay as a company right now in the consumer space focused on software, and I think that\u2019s a good bet,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Xbox head also alluded to the fact that many VR hardware platforms use Microsoft-developed\u00a0Windows, so in a way, VR experiences are making their way to consumers of Microsoft products.
