Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has confirmed that a sequel to last year\u2019s Yakuza: Like A Dragon is in development, and that series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi is officially leaving Sega.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This news comes from a post on the official RGG site<\/a> celebrating the studio\u2019s 10th anniversary this year. In it, the studio thanks its fans for the support over the past 10 years alongside news that Nagoshi is departing from Sega.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs I depart from Sega, I\u2019m also leaving my position as the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio [which Nagoshi started],\u201d Nagoshi said. “Thank you to the fans who have supported us and the Yakuza series for many years. You have my sincerest and deepest gratitude.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yakuza producer Daisuke Sato, who also announced his departure, said that as he leaves Sega, series producer Masayoshi Yokoyama will succeed him as the new RGG studio lead. He also revealed that Yakuza series chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and Yakuza series chief director Ryosuke Horii will now serve as the core leaders of RGG.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RGG director Yokoyama explained that when RGG first became established, it was essentially synonymous with Nagoshi, something he didn\u2019t want to rely too heavily on in terms of name power.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I did not want to rely too heavily on that…so although I had little influence at the time, I kept fighting for change,\u201d Yokoyama writes in the post. \u201cTen years have passed since then, and that resistance I had felt has changed to a feeling of comradery over time and now, I am inheriting the studio from a great director.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Yokoyama writes later in the post that RGG\u2019s predecessors have passed down \u201ctheir beliefs and know-how to each and every staff member,\u201d and that this can be witnessed \u201cin the recently released Lost Judgement and will see it in the upcoming sequel to Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which will continue Ichiban Kasuga\u2019s story.\u201d\u00a0<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s six months or one year from now, I hope to show you a new Ryu Ga Gotoku title by a new Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio that is different but still the same, and something that will spark a feeling of \u2018this is what we are waiting for\u2019 within you,\u201d Yokoyama writes. \u201cI\u2019d like to continue on my life as a video game creator with earnestness.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

This news comes about 10 months after <\/span><\/span>Nagoshi revealed he stepped up from Sega chief creative officer to Sega creative director<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. Then, back in August, reports indicated that NetEase was reportedly in final negotiations to hire Nagoshi (Thanks, <\/span><\/span>gamesindustry.biz<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>). Despite Nagoshi\u2019s formal departure from Sega, there\u2019s still no official word that he\u2019s leaving to join NetEase.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
