We\u2019re D\u2019Avekki Studios, a game studio run by myself, Lynda Cowles, and my husband Tim Cowles. We\u2019re huge fans of Full Motion Video (FMV) games and television shows, so we\u2019re delighted to be able to merge them both together in <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/p\/Dark-Nights-with-Poe-and-Munro\/9NPHKZ6G1S0K\">Dark Nights with Poe and Munro<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, out today for Xbox.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Poe and Munro<\/em> you play through an entire six episode season of supernatural scares as you guide radio hosts Poe and Munro past stalkers, ghosts, and talking paintings, all while trying to keep them (and their relationship) alive as best you can. Unlike other games in the genre, which often rely heavily on text, the choices you make appear as hotspots on screen, which allowed us to show eight options at the same time in some cases!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/turning-tv-episodes-into-dark-nights-with-poe-and-munro.jpg\" alt=\"Poe and Munro\" class=\"wp-image-153487\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Get six episodes all at once<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the beginning of development, we knew we\u2019d be delivering all six episodes in one go. We didn\u2019t want players to have to pay for each episode, but rather experience the whole thing all at once. Most episodes last around 20 minutes, with a couple that are twice that long, but all of them can be replayed multiple times as the storylines are branching and choices matter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/turning-tv-episodes-into-dark-nights-with-poe-and-munro-1.jpg\" alt=\"Poe and Munro\" class=\"wp-image-153488\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Do choices really matter?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes! It\u2019s hard to explain without spoilers but let\u2019s just say there\u2019s a very simple choice to make at the beginning of episode six when Poe is granted a wish. Depending on the choice you make, you\u2019ll experience an entirely different second half to that episode. In fact, you\u2019ll need to play the game at least four times over to experience all the footage (which is almost five hours long!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Player-audience ratings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the end of each episode you\u2019ll see a stats screen that compares your choices with all your Xbox peers, which means you\u2019ll be able to see how many of you chose to save a toy bunny instead of Munro (sorry no more spoilers!)<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/turning-tv-episodes-into-dark-nights-with-poe-and-munro-2.jpg\" alt=\"Poe and Munro\" class=\"wp-image-153489\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Video killed the radio stars<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whilst it\u2019s not impossible to kill Poe or Munro during the game, there\u2019s no restarting required and everything is tidied up nicely by the end of each episode. And while you need to play the episodes in order at the start, once episodes are played they can be replayed in any order, and when you\u2019ve finished the entire season you\u2019ll unlock a skip function that makes each binge quicker.
