Because of this, it apparently wants to make sure its franchise is the only notable Diablo in all of media. Case in point: the publisher has apparently taken exception to a new animated show by Fox that features a dog named, you guessed it, Diablo.<\/p>\n<p>The show in question is called <em>HouseBroken<\/em>. It premieres May 31 on Fox and you can read an excerpt from the show\u2019s official synopsis and watch the trailer below.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside><span><span>HouseBroken<\/span><\/span><span><span> follows a group of neighborhood pets and stray animals as they work through their issues inside and outside their therapy group. Honey (Emmy Award winner Lisa Kudrow, \u201c<em>Friends<\/em>\u201d, \u201c<em>The Comeback<\/em>\u201d), a standard poodle, opens her living room for the group to come and support each other through the misery, mayhem and majesty that is being a pet. Honey also struggles with her own problems, such as her arranged (by her human) marriage with Chief (Nat Faxon, \u201cThe Way Way Back\u201d), a sloppy St. Bernard who enjoys eating socks and licking himself.<\/span><\/span><\/aside>\n<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gameinformer.com\/2021\/05\/03\/blizzard-files-trademark-dispute-with-fox-over-cartoon-dog-named-diablo\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to watch embedded media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re curious, Diablo is voiced by Tony Hale of <em>Arrested Development <\/em>fame.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamesn.com\/diablo-4\/diablo-trademark-blizzard-fox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PCGamesN<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(thanks,<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/blizzard-battles-fox-over-a-cartoon-dog-named-diablo\/?utm_source=twitter.com&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_campaign=socialflow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PC Gamer<\/a><\/em>),\u00a0Blizzard\u2019s attorneys aren\u2019t too happy about Diablo the dog and filed a Notice of Opposition against the show on April 26 (which you can read in full <a href=\"https:\/\/tsdr.uspto.gov\/caseviewer\/pdf?caseId=90007447&#038;docIndex=2&#038;searchprefix=sn#docIndex=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>). The root of Blizzard\u2019s issue stems from Fox\u2019s apparent intention to use Diablo\u2019s name on products such as pet food along with\u00a0various wares including\u00a0beverage glasses, lunch boxes, bowls, toothbrushes, and much more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The notice points out that Blizzard has owned the Diablo trademark for many years and that its branded products have, to quote\u00a0the notice, \u201cenjoyed enormous commercial success, won various industry awards and been the subject of substantial, unsolicited media attention.\u201d The lengthy complaint proceeds to not only run down every notable game and product under the Diablo umbrella, but also lists every award and sales accolade associated with each release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Blizzard is worried that if Fox starts selling merchandise bearing the name \u201cDiablo&#8221;\u00a0it could cause brand confusion and diminish the reputation of the Diablo video game IP. Now to be fair, Blizzard does legally own the Diablo trademark so it has a \u201cvalid\u201d complaint in the eyes of the law.
