In the latest issue of Game Informer<\/em>, we chatted with the Nier mastermind, looking back at the original game\u00a0and forward to the updated version, coming out in just a few weeks on April 23. We knew we couldn’t end the interview\u00a0without asking him a few questions about Nier Replicant’s\u00a0longwinded, mouthful of a title. Does it have\u00a0a special meaning? Is he just trolling us? What is the real story behind the convoluted number sequence in Replicant ver. 1.22474487139?\u00a0He\u00a0answered in true Yoko Taro fashion, making us laugh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, I did not want to put numbers on it,\u201d he said. \u201cI wanted it to be Nier Replicant but Yosuke Saito, producer of the game, really wanted to express that this is an updated version. So I was thinking, \u2018Okay, this is an updated version, but we also don\u2019t want this to be referred to as a remaster. So it\u2019s not a version two, neither is it a remake, but it\u2019s not quite 1.55. Okay, let\u2019s pare it down a little more, maybe, it\u2019s 1.22.\u2019 That was the thinking behind it. As far as whether or not I can memorize the number \u2013 no, I have not, and I\u2019ve been calling it \u2018the updated version\u2019 all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

There you have it. This is why Yoko Taro is a treasure.\u00a0<\/p>\n
