Remedy announced today that Control Resonant<\/a> has surpassed one million copies sold, moving past Alan Wake 2 to become “the fastest-selling game in Remedy Entertainment’s 31-year history.”<\/p>\n

Three weeks to a million copies isn’t exactly a blistering pace by conventional videogame standards: The Blood of Dawnwalker<\/a> hit the mark in three days, Wardogs<\/a> did it in one, and Subnautica 2<\/a> put out twice that number in just 12 hours.<\/p>\n

But despite producing a string of unique, memorable, and critically acclaimed games, Remedy has never really smashed a massive home run in the sales department. Even Alan Wake 2, which won numerous awards for narrative and art direction in 2023 (and would have claimed so many more<\/em> if not for the Baldur’s Gate 3<\/a> behemoth) took two months to sell a million copies<\/a>, significantly outpacing the original Control and making it the studio’s fastest-selling game at that time.<\/p>\n

Remedy’s more pressing problem, though, is profit: It took more than a year, and two million copies sold, before Alan Wake 2 actually started making money<\/a> for Remedy. Addressing that shortcoming was the top priority for Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who took over as the company’s new CEO<\/a> in February: Remedy chairman Henri \u00d6sterlund said at the time that Gaudechon’s appointment was intended “to lead Remedy into a phase of profitable growth.”<\/p>\n

So far, Gaudechon seems to like what he sees from Control Resonant, calling the million-sold mark “a very strong start.”<\/p>\n

“Control Resonant is Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry’s biggest names. The game is unmistakably Remedy, with the bold ideas and distinctive style our players have come to expect from us,” Gaudechon said. “A huge thank you goes to our players and to the team, who have made Control Resonant the incredible game that it is.<\/p>\n

“We have always believed Control deserved an even bigger audience, and this launch shows what’s possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control, which strengthens its long-term potential. With Control and Alan Wake, we now have two established franchises. Our focus is to build on what makes them special, support them, and grow them even further. There is a lot more to come from these worlds.”<\/p>\n

We’ll get a closer look on how Control Resonant’s success has impacted Remedy’s bottom line in Remedy’s Q3 business review, which takes place on November 3.<\/p>\n
