Lots of people [are] still interested in DDR4, so [we\u2019ll] keep offering, and you&#8217;ll see [pricing] smooth out over time. It&#8217;ll come back to normal. That&#8217;s the plan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 250px;\">\n<div class=\"kwizly-quiz kwizly-XkwrzX\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <script src=\"https:\/\/kwizly.com\/embed\/XkwrzX.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s not difficult to imagine why. While both DDR5 and DDR4 prices have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/memory\/this-is-the-first-time-where-im-seeing-no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-how-the-memory-crisis-is-hitting-pc-builders\/\" target=\"_blank\">shot to the moon<\/a> over the past year, it&#8217;s still possible to pick up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/TEAMGROUP-3200MHz-PC4-25600-Unbuffered-Computer\/dp\/B086X2KM1V\" target=\"_blank\">a good 32 GB DDR4 kit for around $200<\/a>. Not to mention those who want to upgrade their machine while hanging on to their old DDR4 sticks, or pick up a still-very-capable prebuilt PC for less. <\/p>\n<p>If pricing and supply can be stabilised, Raptor Lake CPUs may end up being a compelling option once more. They have a tendency to run hot, but in terms of gaming and productivity performance, many would make for great CPUs in a high-performance rig in 2026. And you can still get hold of the odd <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newegg.com\/p\/pl?d=LGA+1700+DDR4\" target=\"_blank\">DDR4-supporting mobo<\/a> for semi-reasonable money, too.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:1920px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"DKrBF5SxfH9BXhHNvdaYi9\" name=\"core-i5-13400f-002.jpg\" alt=\"Intel Core i5 13400F CPU in a motherboard socket\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/intel-is-keeping-raptor-lake-cpus-around-for-years-to-come-as-a-cheaper-alternative-to-ddr5-compatible-chips.jpg\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"inline\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Future)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite all this, the second life of these products seems to have caught Intel somewhat by surprise. &#8220;If people are going to go to more affordable hardware, they still want the fastest available for their money, and that happened to be Alder Lake and Raptor Lake,&#8221; said Hallock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So there was a sudden inrush of demand into these parts\u2014certainly not anticipated when you start your wafers, and your builds, long before that moment ever happens. So it&#8217;s very hard to predict.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Still, if consumers want older hardware for more reasonable prices, it makes sense that Intel is capitalising on the demand. Rumbles around a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/pc-components\/cpus\/intels-upcoming-raptor-lake-next-will-reportedly-top-out-at-20-cores-and-retain-core-200-branding-lineup-may-include-a-special-10-core-sku-with-24mb-of-l3-cache\" target=\"_blank\">Raptor Lake Next<\/a>&#8221; 2027 refresh continue apace, and there&#8217;s also talk of increased chip supply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/processors\/rumours-suggest-intel-may-be-planning-to-join-the-club-of-hardware-manufacturers-reviving-old-product-lines-all-the-way-back-to-comet-lake\/\" target=\"_blank\">going all the way back to 2020&#8217;s Comet Lake<\/a>.
