So why doesn&#8217;t the public company just tell us specifically how many GTA 6 preorders it&#8217;s sold?<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg&#8217;s Jason Schreier recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2026-08-07\/why-take-two-won-t-share-grand-theft-auto-vi-pre-order-numbers\" target=\"_blank\">posed that question<\/a> to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who said that the volume of GTA 6 preorders is so unprecedented that they &#8220;can&#8217;t tell whether they mean anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Take-Two is unsure whether the preorder count can be used to accurately estimate GTA 6&#8217;s total launch sales based on established wisdom, or if it&#8217;s such an outlier that established wisdom doesn&#8217;t apply, and people who&#8217;d normally wait to buy the game after launch are opting to preorder.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The massive demand for preorders we&#8217;ve seen to date could reflect a pull forward of sales that otherwise would materialize in the fullness of time,&#8221; Zelnick said.<\/p>\n<p>Because they &#8220;simply don&#8217;t know the demand curve because it&#8217;s just never happened before,&#8221; the CEO says that &#8220;the raw numbers could potentially be misleading,&#8221; and as such Take-Two is keeping them to itself for now. (Though it is clearly happy to indicate that GTA 6 is already an extraordinary success.)<\/p>\n<p>The next big moment for GTA 6 is a proper gameplay reveal, which will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/grand-theft-auto\/the-first-gta-6-gameplay-reveal-will-debut-on-netflix-later-this-month-as-the-streaming-service-tries-yet-again-to-get-a-piece-of-that-videogame-pie\/\">debut exclusively on Netflix<\/a> on August 27, and then on Rockstar&#8217;s public YouTube channel six hours later.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding that controversial deal (I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/grand-theft-auto\/gta-6s-netflix-deal-forces-us-to-ask-can-you-pirate-an-advertisement\/\">don&#8217;t think it shows much respect<\/a> for GTA fans myself), Zelnick told Bloomberg only that &#8220;there&#8217;s reasoning&#8221; behind it and we&#8217;ll &#8220;understand more&#8221; once we watch it. <\/p>\n<p>All this talk of GTA 6 preorders is purely academic for the PC-only crowd, as there&#8217;s still no PC release date for the game.
