The 32 GB Vengeance DDR5 RGB kit sitting in my PC right now is selling for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/CORSAIR-Vengeance-6000MHz-CL36-44-44-96-Computer\/dp\/B0GGJ79NR3\/\" target=\"_blank\">$480 at Amazon<\/a>, whereas I bought it for $90-$100 just a couple of years ago. Corsair RAM can still be some of the cheapest <em>comparatively<\/em>, but it&#8217;s very pricey nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>So, Corsair must be raking in money hand over fist, right? Not quite, at least according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1743759\/000119312526337981\/crsr-20260630.htm\" target=\"_blank\">its recent filings with the SEC<\/a>. The figures show <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.corsair.com\/static-files\/f74d10af-2252-447c-95a1-dc7d07986205\" target=\"_blank\">a ~9% decline<\/a> in Q2 2026 gaming component and system revenue overall compared to last year\u2014although gross profit was up 17%. Memory revenue itself has increased, but its &#8220;other component products&#8221; revenue has decreased significantly.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company: &#8220;We are both a seller of memory products and a purchaser of memory and other components from third-party suppliers. As a result, elevated pricing benefits net sales and margin on the memory products we sell, while also increasing our cost of components across our broader product offerings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 250px;\">\n<div class=\"kwizly-quiz kwizly-XZKx1e\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <script src=\"https:\/\/kwizly.com\/embed\/XZKx1e.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Corsair sells memory, but doesn&#8217;t manufacture the actual modules themselves, sourcing them instead from Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron (plus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/pc-components\/ddr5\/chinese-memory-maker-cxmt-enters-the-mainstream-consumer-memory-with-corsair-vengeance-ddr5-kit-chinese-made-dram-emerges-as-an-antidote-for-crushing-shortages\" target=\"_blank\">CXMT now, too<\/a>, for some of the RAM it sells in China). It&#8217;s also a system builder, and is thereby affected by higher component prices across the board, an unwanted knock-on effect of the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/memory\/ram-and-storage-is-ridiculously-expensive-right-now-because-of-drumroll-ai-of-course-and-theres-little-reason-to-think-prices-will-drop-any-time-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\">memory crisis<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The company believes that traditional consumer demand is suffering as a result: &#8220;In addition, elevated component costs have made it more difficult for cost-sensitive consumers to upgrade or build new systems, which we believe is negatively affecting overall demand within our Gaming Components and Systems segment,&#8221; says Corsair.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:1920px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"6LRg9LEJAfPR8LEPo6Zpsc\" name=\"Corasirmemorypresentation\" alt=\"A slide from a Corsair investor presentation showing revenue and profit comparisons in its gaming components and systems from 2025 to 2026\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/corsair-isnt-rolling-in-money-from-its-mega-expensive-ram-kits-and-its-all-thanks-to-higher-component-costs-and-lower-demand.jpg\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"inline\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Corsair)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s not all bad news, though. The company says its &#8220;core market position remains centred on the enthusiast-level PC builder, a demographic that has historically demonstrated less price sensitivity than the broader market, which we believe partially mitigates this impact.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Corsair also thinks that the AI workstation market might be its future. &#8220;As the costs of running critical business tasks on public cloud-based Large Language Models increase, there is growing demand to operate local LLMs on private workstation hardware,&#8221; says the company. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe we are well positioned to address this emerging trend by delivering high-performance memory components and fully integrated, purpose-built systems necessary to support local AI processing workloads.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So hey, if cost-conscious gamers are more reluctant to buy, there&#8217;s always the workstation market to tap up with its Corsair Pro lineup of AI workstations and servers. Those at the very top of the AI hardware gold rush are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/nvidia-continues-to-make-astronomical-amounts-of-money-from-ai-with-the-first-quarter-of-2026-being-its-biggest-to-date\/\" target=\"_blank\">raking in staggering sums of money<\/a>, whereas those further down the chain (including us little ol&#8217; individual consumers down the bottom) are paying the price. Or not, as the case may be.<\/p>\n<p>Roll on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/memory\/the-thing-that-gives-me-hope-is-there-is-an-enormous-amount-of-capacity-being-built-amds-head-of-ryzen-and-radeon-is-pinning-hopes-of-an-end-to-the-memory-crisis-on-a-supply-ramp-into-2028\/\" target=\"_blank\">the end of 2027<\/a>, I guess. Or was it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/memory\/analysts-think-sk-hynixs-dram-and-nand-prices-will-finally-drop-by-the-end-of-2028-but-not-before-a-huge-rise-over-the-next-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">2028<\/a>? No wait, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/memory\/customer-demand-will-remain-higher-than-our-supply-capacity-even-beyond-2030-sk-hynix-ceo-predicts-memory-supply-crisis-may-run-even-longer-than-we-feared\/\" target=\"_blank\">2030<\/a>?
