The game&#8217;s servers will still be running for the foreseeable future, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/destiny-2-ending-live-service-content-updates-in-june-as-bungie-moves-on-to-a-new-beginning\/\">Bungie has since ceased updates<\/a> to its flagship shooter to move onto other projects, tragically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/with-destiny-2-over-bungie-lays-off-employees-to-align-the-studios-resources-with-its-current-priorities-and-long-term-goals\/\">laying off much of its staff<\/a> in the aftermath of that decision. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a sorry state of affairs, and one that Warframe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/warframe-dev-says-no-one-is-celebrating-destiny-2-winding-down-a-game-is-healthy-when-you-have-competitors\/\">developers have lamented before<\/a>, despite being in competition with the game from a ruthless, capitalistic sort of perspective. In actuality, there&#8217;s a lot more camaraderie between developers, with live ops lead Megan Everett calling it &#8220;heartbreaking&#8221; back in June. <\/p>\n<p>That sentiment has been repeated again by creative director Rebecca Ford in an interview with our friends over at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/games\/destiny\/warframe-lead-rebecca-ford-says-destiny-2s-death-is-horrible-news-for-everyone-not-the-first-time-its-happened-and-itll-happen-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">GamesRadar+<\/a> during TennoCon: &#8220;It&#8217;s horrible news, because it shows that even if you care so much, the business side of this industry always gets the last remark.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ford says that even though the Destiny 2 team had their own successful IP and worked hard to keep it afloat, that kind of commitment just doesn&#8217;t protect you from anything in the current industry: <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s not the first time it&#8217;s happened, and it&#8217;ll happen again, where the business aspect of the videogame economy makes the decision for you, and it is existentially threatening at every level, because the idea that we aren&#8217;t in charge of our own goodbye is something I wake up thinking about every single day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 250px;\">\n<div class=\"kwizly-quiz kwizly-XYdAvO\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <script src=\"https:\/\/kwizly.com\/embed\/XYdAvO.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s something that&#8217;s been grimly echoed throughout the industry, both during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/making-good-profitable-games-will-no-longer-keep-you-safe-games-industry-expresses-fury-and-heartbreak-over-closure-of-hi-fi-rush-and-prey-studios\/\">Microsoft&#8217;s shock studio closures<\/a> in 2024, which saw Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks unceremoniously closed, and in the bloodbath years that&#8217;ve ensued from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/foolproof-ways-to-get-laid-off-in-the-videogame-industry\/\">all corners of the videogame industry<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>A greater shame, too, because according to those of us on the PC Gamer team who&#8217;ve stuck with Destiny 2 for years, it&#8217;s been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/its-bittersweet-that-the-best-time-to-play-destiny-2-in-years-coincides-with-its-end-but-im-happy-for-the-new-players-who-get-to-experience-its-most-liberating-iteration-yet\/\">left in one of its best states<\/a>\u2014though as we&#8217;ve seen with other games, you can be genuinely turning a corner and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/mmo\/the-elder-scrolls-onlines-developer-deserved-better-than-to-get-sucker-punched-by-microsoft-twice-in-two-years\/\">still get
