It&#8217;s fair to say that PlayStation 3 emulation has come along in leaps and bounds over the years, but the advancement of AI may end up pumping the brakes.<\/p>\n<p>The team behind open-source PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 has apparently been inundated with AI code pull requests, recently issuing a (mostly) polite request to contributors via X to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rpcs3\/status\/2053248922974605431\" target=\"_blank\">Please stop submitting AI slop code<\/a>&#8221; (via <a href=\"https:\/\/respawnfirst.com\/ps3-emulator-development-is-flooded-with-ai-code-devs-say-stop-submitting-slop\/\">Respawn First<\/a>). The team warns that those who continue to submit AI-generated code to <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/RPCS3\/rpcs3\" target=\"_blank\">the project&#8217;s GitHub<\/a> without proper disclosure will be banned.<\/p>\n<p>The team goes on to write, &#8220;There are plenty of resources online to learn how to debug and code instead of generating slop that you don&#8217;t understand and that doesn&#8217;t work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 250px;\">\n<div class=\"kwizly-quiz kwizly-eM7mDO\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <script src=\"https:\/\/kwizly.com\/embed\/eM7mDO.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The AI guidelines on the GitHub project have been updated. On this note, the team shares, &#8220;We have had to revert a few slop [pull requests] that caused big regressions a few times\u2014enough is enough.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Proponents will claim AI coding tools represent big wins in terms of efficiency, but often those gains appear to be undone in the implementation. The GitHub&#8217;s guidelines echo this point, saying, &#8220;[AI slop code] wastes maintainer time and, in worse cases, such changes get merged and break functionality for all users.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The RPCS3 team aren&#8217;t the only devs losing time to dodgy AI code. Just for one example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/the-continued-flood-of-ai-reports-has-basically-made-the-security-list-almost-entirely-unmanageable-linus-torvalds-laments-how-people-are-wasting-the-linux-teams-time-with-llms\/\" target=\"_blank\">Linus Torvalds recently lamented<\/a> that &#8220;The continued flood of AI reports has basically made the [Linux team&#8217;s] security list almost entirely unmanageable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My Dad used to say that on the internet, no one knows you&#8217;re a dog\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/i-taught-my-dog-to-vibe-code-games-yup-someone-actually-managed-to-get-claude-ai-to-code-a-game-based-on-the-keyboard-inputs-of-a-pooch\/\" target=\"_blank\">and it turns out the same is true of vibe coding<\/a>. Doggone code may be the least of a maintainer&#8217;s worries, too; one human software engineer rejected an AI agent&#8217;s code change request, only to later discover <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/a-human-software-engineer-rejected-an-ai-agents-code-change-request-only-for-the-ai-agent-to-retaliate-by-publishing-an-angry-blog-about-him\/\" target=\"_blank\">the AI agent had published an &#8216;angry&#8217; blog about him<\/a>.
