That is, when did it become one of those game companies whose every release becomes a ginormous public event? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind\/\">Morrowind<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/oblivion-remastered\/\">Oblivion<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/fallout-3\/\">Fallout 3<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>None of those, if you ask former Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines. In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaming.firezidechat.com\/p\/firezide-chat-with-pete-hines-631f3bdb9eb02986\">Firezide Chat<\/a>, Hines said the studio&#8217;s first true &#8220;Holy shit&#8221; moment was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/skyrim\/\">Skyrim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody played Skyrim\u2014that was the thing that made us feel like we&#8217;ve arrived, we are legit,&#8221; recalled Hines. It was the moment when a Bethesda release became something other studios dread: &#8220;You have to be concerned about us if you think you&#8217;re going to win game of the year. You have to take us seriously now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not to say Hines thinks every preceding Bethesda game was a drop in the pond. &#8220;Fallout 3 did a lot for us, but there&#8217;s also people who love that game and people who never played it, but that wasn&#8217;t a thing with Skyrim,&#8221; he says. <\/p>\n<p>My beloved Morrowind? We are good enough to do this. It doesn&#8217;t matter how big we are, how big our competition is. We can do this.
