Happy Mario Day! While everyone else is listing their favorite games in the series<\/a> or competing in wacky Mario-related challenges<\/a>, I decided to go a different route in showing my appreciation for the series. Mario is the very reason I first fell in love with gaming as a child and its long list of characters have given me countless hours of entertainment over the years. So with that in mind, I\u2019d like to just run down a bunch of those names\u00a0and give a quick, sometimes stupid reason for why I\u2019m thankful for each and every one.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\" <\/article>\n

Mario<\/strong> – For literally existing and introducing me to video games in the first place.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Luigi<\/strong> – For giving my little brother a reason to not be Mario.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Peach<\/strong> – For pushing me to overcome any obstacle. Also for that underrated DS game.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bowser<\/strong> – For tricking me into thinking he was a dragon instead of a big turtle longer than I care to admit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yoshi<\/strong> – For always understanding that only one of us is going to make the big jumps.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Toad<\/strong>\u00a0 – For making it cool to rock a vest with a bare chest long before Aladdin.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Wario<\/strong> – For legit creeping me out when I first laid eyes on him as a kid<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Waluigi<\/strong> – For inexplicably winning my affection despite being the walking definition of useless<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Daisy<\/strong> – For having the life-action version of her be so off the mark it\u2019s hilarious.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boo <\/strong>– For being the low-key the most adorable thing in the entire series<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bowser Jr.<\/strong> For being the 2nd most adorable thing that deserves his own game.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Birdo<\/strong> – For making me hop on eggs and toss them back, one of my earliest memories of feeling like a badass in games.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Iggy Koopa<\/strong> – For mesmerizing me with THOSE EYES.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Larry Koopa\u00a0<\/strong>– For making me chuckle at the thought of \u201cLeisure Suit Larry Koopa\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lemmy Koopa<\/strong> – For always being on the ball.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ludwig Von Koopa<\/strong> – For that luscious blue hair and can opener-like tooth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Morton Koopa Jr.<\/strong> – For being named after the guy Roddy Piper once sprayed with a fire extinguisher<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Roy Koopa<\/strong> – For rocking a pair of sunglasses Johnny Cage would be jealous of.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Wendy O. Koopa<\/strong> – For putting the \u201cheel\u201d in heels.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Baby Mario<\/strong> – For eventually shutting the heck\u00a0up.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Baby Luigi<\/strong> – *See Baby Mario*<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rosalina<\/strong> – For basically being a Sailor Moon character and the coolest princess of them all.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Toadette<\/strong> – For always making me wonder if her pigtails are edible and\/or feel pain.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Petey Piranha<\/strong> – For having the confidence to rock a speedo that I never could.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kamek<\/strong> – For that pretty glitter effect whenever he casts his spells.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Poochy<\/strong> – For giving Yoshi a lift for a change.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Donkey Kong<\/strong> – For being Mario\u2019s one true rival.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bullet Bill<\/strong> – For becoming gigantic and blowing my young mind in Super Mario World.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cappy<\/strong> – For letting me possess a realistic T-Rex with a dopey mustache.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chagrin\u2019 Chuck<\/strong> – For confusing the hell out of me as a kid by throwing baseballs in football gear.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

F.L.U.D.D.<\/strong> – For being a genuinely good idea done dirty by bad controls.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pauline <\/strong>– For rising from being the OG damsel and to a pants suit-rocking mayor with a killer song.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakitu<\/strong> – For being the character I most want to throw my shoe at.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Plessie<\/strong> – For being a hug-worthy gem that\u2019s finally getting the recognition it deserves\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fawful<\/strong> – For being an immensely entertaining antagonist.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Captain Toad<\/strong> – For being the most sequel worthy entity on this entire list.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nabbit<\/strong> – For having one of the most simple yet brilliantly clever names in Mario history.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Toadsworth<\/strong> – For becoming even better in my head when I imagine him voiced by Michael Caine.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tatanga<\/strong> – For being a literal alien and making me pull a <\/span><\/span>Drew Scanlon<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> when I first encountered\u00a0him.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Puff<\/strong> – For clearly looking like she wants to be put out of her misery.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boom Boom<\/strong> – For being the unsung jobber of the series.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Peachette<\/strong> – For raising all sorts of tantalizing questions and for inspiring…\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

*Bowsette<\/a><\/strong> – For being a beautiful abomination.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
