For PC gamers with one Blood remaster already in their Steam library, the highlight of the package wasn&#8217;t anything technical\u2014it was the addition of the concluding part of one of Blood&#8217;s best mods.<\/p>\n<p>That mod is<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/marrow\" target=\"_blank\"> Marrow<\/a>, a new campaign for Monolith&#8217;s deviously difficult and ferociously violent shooter. It&#8217;s sort of Blood&#8217;s equivalent of John Romero&#8217;s<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/romero-returns-to-doom-to-play-tricks-in-sigil\/\"> Sigil<\/a>\u2014a continuation of Blood&#8217;s storyline that concluded with protagonist Caleb slaying his demonic former master Tchernobog. Like Sigil, Marrow restricts itself to Blood&#8217;s original assets (weapons, enemies etc) to power the experience, focussing instead on using those assets to build large and complex new maps for the game.<\/p>\n<p>Episode One of Marrow has been out for a while, releasing back in 2023. Marrow&#8217;s creator, Nick Palsmier, intended to issue a general release of Chapter 2 as close to the launch of Nightdive&#8217;s 2025 remaster as he could. But as he explains in<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/marrow\/news\/marrow-20-release\" target=\"_blank\"> a post on ModDB<\/a> &#8220;Responsibilities and life got in the way. As did a trickle of small issues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Still, it hasn&#8217;t been that long since Blood: Refreshed Supply landed, and it seems like Marrow: Chapter 2 has been worth the wait. Chapter 2 is larger than Chapter 1, offering 13 maps compared to the first episode&#8217;s 10. These maps are designed to be more elaborate and horror-focussed than Chapter 1&#8217;s, and they seem to have gone down swimmingly with the community.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-video\" data-nosnippet >\n<div class=\"video-aspect-box\"><iframe data-lazy-priority=\"low\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bM-WjGBUZFg\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/marrow\/reviews\/page\/2?filter=t&#038;rating=10#reviewsbrowse\" target=\"_blank\">thelordoffliess <\/a>&#8220;Fantastic mod; played it with the new edition and it felt great. Can&#8217;t wait to see what the author does next,&#8221; writes ModDB user <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/marrow\/reviews\/page\/2?filter=t&#038;rating=10#reviewsbrowse\" target=\"_blank\">albatrosslos<\/a>. Meanwhile, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/marrow\/reviews\/page\/2?filter=t&#038;rating=10#reviewsbrowse\">thelordoffliess <\/a>simply describes the mod as &#8220;one of the best I&#8217;ve ever played.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re wondering why there was a three-year gap between Marrow&#8217;s two chapters, it&#8217;s largely because Palsmier has been working on another Blood-infused project. Specifically, Palsmier was a map designer for Chapter 2 of Blood&#8217;s modern descendent<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/cultic\/\"> Cultic<\/a>, which fellow FPS sicko Ted Litchfield declared one of last year&#8217;s best shooters in his<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/cultic-review\/\"> Cultic Review<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This exercise in demon worshipper annihilation is a meat and potatoes boomer shooter that primarily distinguishes itself by executing everything at a very high level,&#8221; Ted wrote in December last year. &#8221; Great maps, great guns, great enemies, plus one of a kind art direction and suffocating jaunts into pure horror.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I do wonder what Marrow&#8217;s release into the wild means for Refreshed Supply as a prospect. By all accounts, Nightdive&#8217;s latest Blood transfusion is vastly improved over Fresh Supply. But the price has led to grumbling from players who already bought a Blood Remaster once (more at Atari and Warner Bros than Nightdive itself, admittedly).
