But developer Warhorse Studios isn&#8217;t satisfied with making one of the best games of 2025, planning nothing less than to claim the RPG throne for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a preview event for KCD 2&#8217;s upcoming Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC (via<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/games\/rpg\/kingdom-come-deliverance-2-devs-want-to-establish-ourselves-as-the-new-kings-of-rpg-and-the-studios-future-will-definitely-be-immersive-rpgs\/\" target=\"_blank\"> GamesRadar<\/a>) communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling laid out Warhorse&#8217;s battle plan. &#8220;We, at Warhorse Studios, absolutely feel at home in the RPG genre. We want to establish ourselves as the new kings of RPGs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for how Warhorse intends to achieve this, Stolz-Zwilling believes the studio is already on the right track, in the way KCD 2 blends detailed quest design with a reactive, open-ended world that recalls the emergent delights of<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion\/\"> The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion<\/a>. This, Stolz-Zwilling says, will carry through into whatever Warhorse makes next: &#8220;We believe that we have our own formula here, and that we define them in a specific way, and our next project will go the same direction. It will definitely be immersive RPGs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-video\" data-nosnippet >\n<div class=\"video-aspect-box\"><iframe data-lazy-priority=\"low\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e67Fc8ashBs\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Needless to say, Warhorse has some stiff competition. Current RPG rulers Larian are beavering away<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/baldurs-gate\/larians-not-holding-back-for-its-next-two-rpgs-the-machine-was-meant-to-make-large-games\/\"> on two new projects<\/a>, while Final Fantasy-brained newcomers Sandfall Interactive are the current darlings of the roleplaying space thanks to<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/clair-obscur-expedition-33\/\"> Clair Obscur: Expedition 33<\/a>. Bethesda, BioWare and Obsidian have all been running at a lower ebb than their European counterparts in recent years, but I don&#8217;t think we can rule any of them out, what with<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/the-elder-scrolls-vi\/\" target=\"_blank\"> The Elder Scrolls 6 <\/a>, a new<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk\/games\/action\/mass-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Mass Effect<\/a> in development, and Obsidian&#8217;s ridiculous hit-rate.<\/p>\n<p>Then, of course, there&#8217;s CD Projekt, which recently<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/rpg\/cd-projekt-red-just-bagged-one-of-kingdom-come-deliverance-2s-lead-designers-for-the-witcher-4-and-suddenly-im-far-more-interested-in-ciris-upcoming-adventure\/\"> hired one of KCD 2&#8217;s quest designers<\/a>. That&#8217;s a pretty big acknowledgement that Warhorse is playing in the same pool, though it does mean that designer is now working on The Witcher 4 rather than whatever Warhorse is cooking up next.<\/p>\n<p>For now, though, Warhorse&#8217;s priority is that<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/3368620\/Kingdom_Come_Deliverance_II_Mysteria_Ecclesiae\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Mysteria Ecclesiae<\/a> DLC, which released today and sees Henry put on whatever the 14<sup>th<\/sup> Century equivalent of a Deerstalker was and embark upon a spot of sleuthing in the secluded Sedletz Monastery.
