In the years since, things have only become more dire, culminating in Black Ops 6 reaching the damning aesthetic nadir of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CallofDuty\/status\/1937194237554295005\" target=\"_blank\">Tactical Beavis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the higher powers doing the decisionmaking in the shooter market have finally clocked that a lot of people hate this shit. In <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dexerto.com\/call-of-duty\/black-ops-7-devs-canceled-big-brand-collabs-after-backlash-3256095\/\" target=\"_blank\">an interview with Dexerto<\/a>&#8216;s CharlieIntel, Treyarch senior director of production Yale Miller said Activision has cancelled crossover skin deals to focus on cosmetics that &#8220;make sense for Black Ops 7.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:1920px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"M8MvF7ra3vA8mUuGcVPKxT\" name=\"Black Ops 7 a\" alt=\"Call of Duty: Black Ops\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/call-of-duty-black-ops-7-devs-straight-up-turned-down-skin-deals-with-big-big-brands-following-tactical-beavis-backlash.jpg\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"1\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"expandable\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Activision Blizzard)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After Battlefield 6 devs declared their intent to keep the players in their modern military game <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/it-has-to-be-grounded-battlefield-6-devs-say-cosmetics-wont-be-as-goofy-as-call-of-duty-but-that-sounds-almost-too-good-to-be-true\/\" target=\"_blank\">looking like modern military guys<\/a>, thereby delivering the coup de grace in their campaign of eating Call of Duty&#8217;s lunch, Activision <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/call-of-duty\/as-battlefield-6-commits-to-keeping-it-grounded-with-skins-call-of-duty-director-makes-an-unconvincing-promise-to-calibrate-cosmetics-in-black-ops-7\/\" target=\"_blank\">issued a sheepish commitment<\/a> to &#8220;calibrate&#8221; its skin philosophy for Black Ops 7.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, that commitment suddenly looked a lot more firm, as Activision confirmed that players&#8217; cosmetics <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/fps\/activision-finally-acknowledges-call-of-duty-skins-problem-decides-cosmetics-wont-carry-forward-in-black-ops-7-some-of-you-have-said-weve-drifted-from-what-made-call-of-duty-unique-in-the-first-place-that-feedback-hits-home\/\" target=\"_blank\">wouldn&#8217;t be carried forward<\/a> into Black Ops 7, thus banishing <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/call-of-duty\/tired-of-call-of-dutys-crossover-skins-hash-it-out-in-black-ops-6s-upcoming-weed-themed-extravaganza-featuring-joint-operations-and-jay-and-silent-bob\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jay and Silent Bob<\/a> to forever linger amongst the battlefields of the past. According to Miller, Activision&#8217;s cosmetic recalibration isn&#8217;t just cutting off previous missteps. Instead, Black Ops 7 devs still intend to stick to some of the more absurd cosmetics\u2014like the mannequin skins from the Black Ops 6 Nuketown Block Party event, or the TEDD Operator from the Vault Edition of Black Ops 7\u2014if they think it fits the vibe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All intentions [are] to stick to stuff that we can, hand on our heart, say, &#8216;Yeah, that feels Black Ops,'&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;That\u2019s really our goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll notice that Miller didn&#8217;t explicitly say that crossover skins were off the table\u2014just that skins should &#8220;feel like&#8221; they fit. While that&#8217;s theoretically an improvement over complete visual slop, all it takes is a few skins that chip away at a game&#8217;s visual identity before you&#8217;ve given yourself a license to start throwing aesthetic spaghetti at the wall.
