I&#8217;m saying that the reports about discussions that we considered higher pricing for first party games in this launch window were categorically false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan justified the new higher price point \u2013 which exists across both PS5 and Xbox Series \u2013 by comparing it to other media: \u201cIf you measure the hours of entertainment provided by a video game, such as Demon\u2019s Souls compared to any other form of entertainment, I think that&#8217;s a very straightforward comparison to draw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sony discussed raising its game prices even higher before settling on its $70 USD price point, according to a new report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-09\/game-prices-go-up-to-70-the-first-increase-in-15-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We know now that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ps5-full-priced-first-party-games-will-be-70\">many of Sony&#8217;s first-party games will cost $70<\/a>. That&#8217;s the price tag on upcoming titles like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/demons-souls-state-of-play-shows-off-12-minutes-of-ps5-gameplay\">Demon&#8217;s Souls<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ps5-launch-game-destruction-allstars-delayed-to-february-will-launch-in-ps-plus\">Destruction All-Stars<\/a>. This is a $10 jump in the cost of games, but according to Bloomberg, an even bigger jump was discussed. The report doesn&#8217;t reveal how much higher Sony discussed going, but the idea of going beyond $70 comes from games executives that wished to remain anonymous when speaking to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"widget-container\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-2486504960 slideshow-preview\">\n<p>PS5 Games Coming in 2020<\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-2486504960 images-container\"><button aria-label=\"Open Slideshow\" class=\"jsx-2486504960 hero-image\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-3905315446 aspect-ratio-container aspect-ratio-16-9\">\n<div class=\"jsx-3905315446 aspect-ratio-child\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/sony-says-reports-of-mooted-game-price-rise-beyond-70-are-categorically-false.jpg\" alt role=\"presentation\" class=\"jsx-2920405963 progressive-image image jsx-2126225085 expand loading\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/output>Based on the games coming from Sony this year, we know the company settled on $70, but according to Bloomberg&#8217;s report, companies are not likely to even acknowledge this $10 price jump, and will instead opt for the more optics-friendly wording that prices will vary by title.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note, however, that not every Sony first-party game will release at $70. This week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-ps5-review\">Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/a> is launching at $50 \u2014 although there&#8217;s a $70 edition that includes Spider-Man Remastered \u2014 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/sackboy-a-big-adventure-new-ps5-gameplay-details\">Sackboy: A Big Adventure<\/a> will launch at $60. Outside of Sony&#8217;s first-party lineup, there are others shifting to the $70 price point as well. Activision&#8217;s upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/black-ops-cold-war-release-date-gameplay-details-crossplay-and-everything-we-know-about-call-of-duty-2020\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/a> will release at $70 as will Take-Two&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/nba-2k21-on-xbox-series-and-ps5-to-add-next-gen-ai-and-new-myplayer-options\">NBA 2K21<\/a>. Even third-party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/godfall-is-a-six-month-ps5-console-exclusive\">PlayStation 5 console-exclusive game, Godfall<\/a>, will cost $70.<\/p>\n<p>The jump to $70 is the first price increase since the Xbox 360-PlayStation 3 generation, which saw prices jump from $50 in the previous generation to $60. That $60 price tag stuck throughout that generation and throughout the Xbox One-PlayStation 4 generation.
